I cancelled the DISH service in February 2004 (via e-mail) and had Direct TV installed and initiated their service on March 1st. My account billing was automatically billed to my credit card and was paid through that service. In the month following the cancellation, my credit card was billed by DISH for the month of March. I wrote another e-mail and requested a return of the funds billed to my account, explaining that it had been cancelled in February. I never received a reply, but in April, my credit card was again billed for another month of service. As I was leaving for a business trip, I contacted DISH by phone when I returned in May.

By that time, I had received my May credit card statement and found that they had billed me once again. The representative stated that she would cancel the account at that time, but could not refund the money erroneously charged to my account (@ $210.00), and she gave me the CEO's e-mail so that I could contact him regarding this situation. She told me that I could not cancel service by e-mail, but could not explain why I was not notified of this, nor why I did not receive a response from my TWO e-mails advising of same. She provided me the wrong e-mail address, so I called back the following day - onnly to find out that my account was remained active and was accruing charges.

Again, I was promised that the account was cancelled and I was given the correct e-mail address for Mr. Ergen, the CEO for DISH. I have written him two e-mails explaining this situation and requesting a return of the erroneous charges paid through my credit card. I have not received a response and have recently reported this to the Consumer Advocate for one of the local TV stations. I will be filing with the Consumer Fraud office for the state of California next week.
