To start off if I didn't know better I would have thought that I had written all of the complaints that I have read about this company. I too had a providian account that was transfered to emerge mastercard. Also, I did have credit protection with providian.

I was making payments as regularly as possible. Then after running into some financial problems I had to move. I did submit a forwarding address but I did not hear from them for awhile.

One day I at my new residence I start getting computer generated phone calls from emerge. I did not know what they were so I didn't think much of them.

Then one day I got a call from a live person. She informed me of who she was and why she was calling. She advised that my account had been closed and transfered to emerge.

I then began to inform her that I was out of work and that I had had credit protection with providian. She informed me that they would not accept it. I told her again that I was out of work and was unable to pay at this time.

She insisted that I make a post dated payment and the late fee would be waived. Trying to make good on paying this bill off, I authorized a post dated payment.

To make a long story short I was out of work for 1 year and making payments when I could. But no matter how much I paid my balance continued to go up due to the over the limit fees, periodic finance charges and late fees.

So in february of 2004 I received a paydown you debt assistance letter.The letter stated that you could make 3 consecutive payments of your monthy fee and you would be inrolled into a program that would eliminate your late fees and over the limit fees for the promotional period which was 6 months, also the apr would be 0%.

You would be enrolled int the program after the 3rd payment Or, you could make a payment of 1 lump sum of the balance due which was $135. If the lump sum payment was make then you would automatically be enrolled by the next billing cycle.

I made the $135 payment. When I received my bill it still had all of the late fees, 29.99% apr, and over the limit fees. I called emerge and asked why I was still being charge all of the fees and why wasn't I enrolled. She stated that it was should up on my next statement.

Needless to say after 3 months and making my payments on time I still was not enrolled. So I called again and informed the csr that I would not be making another payment on this account because the were not keep with their part of the agreement.

She informed me that I should have been enrolled after I made my payment but there was an error and there was nothing that she could do about it. Then she said if I made the 3 consective payments I would be enrolled. I made the payments again.

By this time I realized that they had no interest in settling this debt but they were trying to contiue to collect money as long as they could.

It really made me began to review all of the events that had taken place with this company. I'm ashamed to say that I had been had.

It felt hopeless. I could not seem to get rid of them. One day I really took a good look at my bill. It said that I was $892 over my limit. But my balance was $1,700 dollars. My credit limit was only $300 with providian. I never got a limit increase so why is there an approximate $500 difference.

I called them again and asked if there was someone that I could speak to in reference to settling this account I was told that they do not settle. I asked if they could send me a proof of debt listing all of the activity on this account since it was acquired by emerge. They told me that they could only send me my monthly statement.

I know that I have paid way over what was due on this account. But they are on my credit report and I can't seem to get any satisfaction. To date I refuse to make any more payments on this account. For one by law they should have honored my credit protection agreement that I had with providian.

For the last couple of weeks I was getting calls from a computer stating that her name is Jennifer and she is sorry that she missed me but she is calling from Emerge Card Services and she has important information about my account.

First of all how is she missing me when I'm answering the phone and not my answering machine. Now last week I got a call from the same computer stating that her name is Jennifer and she has important information about my Aspire account.

Oh No!!!!! They changed their name again.I have since called Trans Union to put and investigation into this debt. I am waiting for a response from them. HELP!!!!

How does this company have so many complaints against them but nothing has been done.
