Europcar Professional Bait and Switch Operation San Jose del Cabo Baja

As others have reported, I showed up after a long flight to collect my car only to be told that the insurance that was included on my reservation was not included and I'd need to pay an additional $35/day to rent the car to cover the insurance. I explained that the 3rd party insurance was covered on the rental and was written on my printed out reservation and that any additional coverage they required was covered by Visa. They wanted a letter from Visa verifying the coverage. Showing them the Visa webpage did not satisfy them.

There was one other customer there that was having the same problem.

I booked through rentalcars.com who couldn't be reached by phone.

I went back to the airport and rented from Sixt.com. Their full price including all insurance was less than the $35/day Europcar wanted to charge. Talking to other travellers, it seems that when Europcar is running out of cars they will pull this stunt on the cheaper reservations so that they can rent the cars out at higher prices.

Do not rent from Europcar in Mexico. I've had good experiece with them in Europe but after this, I won't be renting from them anywhere.
