I was not told that they had new management. They pulled a fast one over on me.They did not try to notify me by letter, nor by phone. They lie like rugs. Dishonesty is not the best policy. You wanted to take advantage of persons for your own greedy needs. This needs to be investigated. This is a recession in which you could have had hearts and let persons pay what they could. You would rather send a certified letter the day before  with a large amount letting the person know ther belongings will be auctioned off the following day at 1200 noon! How scheming  and underhanded could you be? Remember God does not like ugly! So you really think that you will prosper from this? I don't think SO! Your souls will burn in hell for this!    Adriane Charlotte N.C.

Beware of Name Changes as well!!!

AUTHOR: clint - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, October 09, 2010

These criminal 'entities' like Extra Space Storage' will 'deepen' their scam(s)/criminal activity(s) by changing their business name(s) as well.  This company has done exactly that at least twice that I know factually of!!!   Everyone should be 'aware' of this 'tactic', and they lie to the customers saying, oh! we have a new owner/ management!! Lies on top of lies!!!

Then continue 'scamming' the public with their same criminal activitites as ever!!!  when in reality it's just a simple 'name change' and the re-shuffling of the same old criminals around to different facilities   Public Storage is the same ripp-off scam, I just have never heard of them changing the name (yet)!!    ('see' Public Storage as well on this website)

An experts insight!

Being a self storage expert, I can tell that you are not reporting all the facts.  The lien laws for North Carolina are very specific regarding the mailing of notices and letters.  North Carolina statutes prescribe notices, newspaper publications and other requirements that must be followed.  Moreover, you signed a contract which clearly outlined the rent, late fees and remedies for non-payment.

I can tell you and anyone else that reads this post that the best strategy to use if you are late at a self storage facility is to approach the manager, be REAL NICE and explain that you are experiencing financial difficulties and ask them to help you by giving you more time.  Follow through on your commitments, continue to communicate and thank them profusely for their understanding and mercy.

I have been doing this since 1965 and in all these years, not one person has offered to exchange work for their delinquent rent, painting, cleaning, etc.  Self storage managers are kind, blue collar workers and the last thing they want to do is sell your belongings.  However, they don't own the property, the shareholders do.  I know the founder of Extra Space and he is an honorable man of very high moral character.

I am not preaching too you, I am telling you how to react in the future.  There is an old saying "Don't slap a man when he is chewing tobacco!"

Ripoff indeed.

" This is a recession in which you could have had hearts and let persons pay what they could."

So, the real story is that you couldn't pay your bill and you're mad that this company wouldn't just accept what you were willing to pay.   I'm sure you have a contract that spells out exactly what happens when you don't pay your storage bill.  Do you think this company should let everyone slide on their bills, or are you special?
