On 11/17/10 I rented a 10 x 20 storage space from A-American storage facility. The move in fee was $19.99 and the monthly rental price was $131.00. I rented a space from A-America Self Storage. I have been renting from formely A-America which is now extra space storage for almost two years. Their location is somewhat distant from where I live, so I always made my payment with my debit card over the phone.
In June 10, 2012, I received a call from "George" from extra space storage on 6/10/2012, stating that my payment was overdue and that I had to pay a late charge which brought my payment amount up to $150.00.
I explained to George that I had been sick and the date slipped my mind. I asked George if I made the payment today, (which was the last day for me to pay without a late charge) would they be able to wave the late charges. George informed me that I had to talk to Heidi (site manager) about waiving fees. Heidi was not in that day so I informed George to "have Heidi call me the next day" (Which should have been the day that the late charged would be applied). I received no call back from Heidi.
I continually left messages that I wanted to pay my storage fee before I receive another late charge for July. Heidi finally returned my calls on July 10 2012. I missed her call, she left me a message and stated that she would be there until 5:30PM, and to give her a call today.
I had called Heidi back and left her several messages. I started calling Heidi from 5:10PM - 5:35PM. I left her a message each time (which she stated that she never received, liar) and I also emailed her. When I finally spoke with Heidi, I asked her about waiving the late charges. (which was not even late until the 11th day of every month) Heidi instructed me to go to their website and post a comment about their company and she would wave the late charges.
I posted the comment, gave them good recomendations, (before they stiffed me). I then called Heidi and asked her if she had read the post. She informed me that she had not. I posted on the website again, this time I saved both of the posts as a draft in my email folder. I emailed both post to Heidi to show her that I had made the posts.
I once again called Heidi for the next 3 days trying to make my payment. I left more messages to them stating that I was trying to make my payment. All I got was their answering service which stated "all the representatives was busy with other clients, and please leave a message and your call will be returned as soon as possible". I left so many messages that I lost count of them.
I had also asked her if I could make the payment online. Heidi stated that I could not due to the late payment. She stated that my charges were now up to $560.00 due to my late charges. I asked her what made the payment shoot up to this amount, and she told me there were late charges and lien holds and some other crap.
I explained to Heidi that I had called and left messages stating that I needed to make my payment. She once again stated that she never got the messages. She told me I should have kept calling her and that there was nothing she could do about the charges. I was so upset with them that my blood pressure went up.
If they auction off my belongings because of none-payment, I guarentee you they will have to repay me, and my belongings are way more valuable than the $560.00 that they are trying to get from me. I have all my proof that I made many attempts to make my payment before any late charges became due. What the hell was I supposed to do if they would not answer my messages perhaps leave my card number for the payment on the answering service. "I think not" and I say "Hell to the no". I will see them in court.
