I have been working for over 3 years for FD. I am an assistant manager. Obviously I dare not disclose any identifying info about myself or my store for fear of the inevitable repercussions. My boss (who is a d**n GOOD BOSS) and I have been talking about what a bunch of crack pots must run this company for all the years I've worked there. They expect you to do fifty things in one week.

Our store has a total of 5 employees and we are given about 160 payroll hours. After you take out the manager's 52 that leaves very little. People are alone in the store for 3 hours every morning. Neihborhood theives know this and shoplift us blind. They won't fix the situation. Also, if you have to use the bathroom in that time, you have to just make a run for it and hope nobody runs out with merch. They b***h about our shrink but won't do anything to fix it.

They want freight out, schematics done, shelf talkers up, displays set up, cigarettes counted, and a thousand other things but it's PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE with what we're given. And then they write you up!

They send truck at 6 PM at night, after dark. They tell you that you can't open the back door after dark, but then they tell you that you have to take your truck.

My Christmas "bonus" has gone DOWN every year I've worked for this company, and my last raise was .20! Not exactly an incentive to bother taking on all the extra b.s. they've added (cigarettes, more paperwork done, more b.s. period).

And yes, my boss has been asked to basically work as a slave. Anything beyond 52 hours she is not getting paid for. They send our managers to other stores to throw their freight for them, FOR FREE. This is all such a bunch of crap. If it weren't so hard to find another job right now I would SO be out of there!

 I can with, 100% confidence, verify everything this post says.  Ironically, I walked off my Store Manager job the day after this was posted.  I often worked 60-80 hours a week.  The work load was mathematically/physicall impossible and I was made to feel like I was a failure because it didn't get done.  Never mind that NO ONE in our district had it done.  I decided my health/family/life was more important.  All employees are considered thieves and are treated as such.  Our Regional Loss Prevention Manager's mantra is- "anyone will steal given the right circumstances."  No, seriously, he really did say that.

My DM was the most unprofessional, spiteful, conniving person you would care to work for.  The behavior she used to brag about would make your hair curl.  I have a feeling she is using ESTEEM as a spite tool to keep me from getting another job-since it was one of her favorite threats.  I have NEVER stolen a thing in my life, but all of a sudden, I can't seem to find even a Supervisory position at retailers who I had the pick of before.  Hmmmm.  And, of course, one is not able to access those to check for accuracy.

Free advice...steer clear of this company. 

p.s.  No employee discount either.

p.p.s And you aren't allowed to by damaged/short dated or store mark down items either.  You might be marking them down for yourself, after all.
