I WAS CALLED ON MY FEDERAL GOVERNMENT CELL PHONE AND OFFERED AN $8,000.00 GRANT. ALL I HAD TO DO WAS:
*SEND A CHECK FOR $257.00
*GIVE MY BANK ACCOUNT NUMBER OVER THE TELEPHONE TO VERIFY THAT I WAS THE PERSON THEY WERE CALLING

THEN I WOULD BE TRASFERRED TO ANOTHER PERSON OR DEPARTMENT TO RECEIVE MY "GRANT ACCESS CODE" AND A TELEPHONE NUMBER TO CHECK ON MY GRANT STATUS.

THE INDIAN SOUNDING PERSON(LADY NAMED:P. LINDSEY), GAVE ME HER I.D. NUMBER OF #0728. SHE ALSO STARTED TO TELL ME MY ROUTING NUMBER OVER THE TELEPHONE!... SO I WAS SUSPICIOUS WHY SHE WANTED MY ACCOUNT NUMBER IF SHE ALREADY HAD MY BANKING ROUTING NUMBER?... I HUNG UP ON HER IMMEDIATELY... SHE TRIED TO CALL ME BACK AND I TURNED OFF MY CELL PHONE.

Why would the US Gov't charge anyone for a grant

AUTHOR: Bob - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, September 25, 2004

If people only think 1 step ahead (you didn't even get thar far before you smelled this scam) that the US Gov't isn't going to a 3rd party to give out grants. If a person is eligible he would get it for free by applying to the US Gov't.

I guess (maybe someone can verify this) is that when the scammer calls they have the routing numbers of the largest banks in the area and the person being called probably has a checking account at one of these banks, so it appears they know about the person. They don't know anything about you and don't give them anything. Question them: What is the grant for? How about I pay you when I get the grant? Are you a US Federal employee? What is your Federal id? What department are you from? How can I call you back? etc etc etc That is if you even want to waster your time. DON'T FALL FOR IT!!
