Took my 1998 Plymouth Voyager to Firestone for intermittent screeching in engine area plus I noticed coolant leak while parkedin my garage. Left it over night for morning diagnosis. Was advised the serpentine belt idler pully as noise problem. Coolant leak was upper radiater hose had a split, also was advised that water pump was not leaking but possible loose bearing. Advised them to go ahead and replace waterpump.

Vehicle has approximately 154000 miles on it. My cost for water pump was $84.99, upper hose $30.99 belt tensioner $74.99. serpentine belt $71.99 which was about 6 months old to statr with.

I have no real problem with the labor cost, but parts are way out of line pricewise. Total cost for all was $685.36. Would be interested if anyone else agrees with parts prices being way out of line.

SOUNDS LIKE BAD CUSTOMER

AUTHOR: Plane Jane - ()

POSTED: Friday, January 24, 2014

If you are not willing to allow a business to make a few dollars then that business will be closed soon.  Your comments show a general lack of knowledge about business. I'm not a big fan of Firestone, but I believe it is dishonest for a customer to expect to get things for free or at a reduced cost. I consider this type of consumer a dishonest customer and no business would want them in their door.

Tom "NO HONESTY" Marty&OP the facts are clear

Tom, stop right there you're incorrect all parts meet or exceed vehicles manufactured specifications, the problem here is with your lies', theirs a saying if it smells like bullshit then it is bullshit. And since you speak only half-truths here making it difficult for anyone to belive what you're saying, on-top of it all you are mouth pice for "FIRESTONE" "TIRES PLUS" "ECT". now to make it clear all parts come with an "WARRANTIES" some come with a year " LIMITED LIFE TIME" "ECT" . furthermore you're "6 MONTH OLD BELT" could have most likely been damaged due to the idler pulley, I've seen new serpentine belt getting damaged by pulley's on power steering pumps,alternator,A/C compressors' even the ones on a harmonic balancer.

The problem here is 'NO RIPOFF" here, I tell my client's what their options are while showing them their old part or parts before throwing them away or putting them in a bag, when it comes to belts if not too damaged i give it back in-case the new one fails due to it being defective or like in your case a pulley failed, all I've done is so they're not out more money. And over the years these belts and hoses have improved, belts&hoses I install are gates, goodyear, I use them as well on all of my vehicles plus they meet or exceed "OEM" for brakes' I use ether Raybesto bendex, ceramic-semi metallic and full ceramic on the suburban cause it dissipates the heat better while driving in the mountains ect.

Firestone Complete Auto Care Corporate Response

AUTHOR: BSRO Social - ()

POSTED: Friday, July 26, 2013

My name is Tom and I am with the Firestone Corporate Office. I have read your review and want to apologize that your experience was anything but perfect. There are many reasons a part may be higher priced at our store then can be found on the internet or parts wholesaler. The increase in price can come from our nationwide warranty on parts valid at any of our 2,200 stores, extended part warranty often above that of outside parts, or due to the high quality O.E.M or comparable parts used. We also offer a Price-Match Guarantee at all of our Tires Plus locations. If you find a comparable service at a full-service repair shop in your area at a less expensive price we will match it. If you feel that the price you were given was not accurate for the service and would like me to investigate, please feel free to email me at social@bfrc.com.

really isn't over price

AUTHOR: classic muscle power - ()

OK what customers need to understand is the price of the parts pays for the high overhead cost, that $15.00 hose is now $30.00 ect.

now if you want to save money shop a round and supply you're own parts the down side is they "NO WARRANTY" on the since its considered outside Purchas, the up side is you can get your money back if said part or parts fails by filling a claim or if the auto parts store see's it as a defective part, note their is too sides' pros and cons, I bet you're not going spend time trying the option I've explained so when or if those parts fail "FIRESTONE" by law must replace and fix it for free case closed not a Ripoff!

That is one of my biggest complaints.

I understand when someone has to go pick the parts up, but, most atuo parts stores deliver to garages and hand them the part. Why they think they are entitled to make money on the part is beyond me.

As far as firestone, I wouldn't take a tricycle to them.
