First Niagara of Pottstown Pa (formerly Harleysville Bank) has been systematicaly situating all of my monthly direct deposits in a way so as to capitalize on the over draft privledge. I am a single Mom and every penny goes somewhere and no savings are left. My only income are death benefits and spousal support. These benefits are electronicaly transferred.

This bank has designed a way that my account does not reflect these deposits on a consistant basis even though all of the deposits are always made consistantly and the same time every month.

This practice has resulted in so much of my income lost that I am behind on all of my bills and also resulting in utility shut offs with hefty reconnection fees and larger deposits required of me to use these utilities.

I have spoken to so many people from NY to PA and it is like talking to a wall. When they do give me a print out at any given day of the week I have noticed info. changes and deletions, the paper work was always manipulated on a weekly basis.

One time I went to the ATM in the grocery store to check my balance. I bought groceries accordingly and the next week recieved an Over Draft notice again!!! I asked them if they could spot me a line of credit for 1000 dollars which would always be paid back by the end of the month and thier response was "You don't have a job."

My monthly direct deposits add up to 3400 dollars a month guaranteed direct deposits, however I am unable to properly pay my monthly bills due to this unethical practice. If I had the 1000 dollar line of credit I could pay my bills on time and get back on my feet financialy. I am very worried about the future. I have not been able to save a dime. This is also the bank that did some shadey stuff with some investments I made a few years back. The only reason I caught it was because I inquired about missing funds and no one seems to understand what I am talking about over there. I do believe the loss on the investments is in the range of 10,000-20,000 dollars. Please help, no money left for an attorney. My children have gone without basic needs, food/medical etc.

direct deposits

AUTHOR: bankrldy76 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, July 18, 2011

In my experience, the bank isn't the entity that "structures" direct deposits.  The bank is just the facilitator of said deposits.  For instance, if you set up your payroll deposit to go into an account, you give the payroll department your banking information, then the deposit is put into your account on whatever day of the month your employer pays you.

Banks cannot pick and choose how and when direct deposits hit the account.  It's the same way with automatic withdrawals.  The bank is merely the go-between for the company debiting the money.

IMHO, it sounds like you need to contact whatever institution you are getting these death benefits from and ask them why there is a delay or difference in those deposits hitting the bank.

Ok, I'll admit I was hastey in my initial report. I have little time to sit on the computer to write everything down. I must state that I have a college degree and some graduate level training in Organizational Behavior and Psychology. That being said, I document everything and can prove with hard copy all that I have accused. Yes, the broad range between 10 and 20 thousand is evident here, however I use those numbers as a rounded number considering years, balance of investment initialy and lost people and paper work on the end of the bank when inquirig about the growth. As I said previous; I keep all papers and can establish wrong doig on the part of this financial institution.

PS. "Get a job?" hahaha REALLY?

NO.NO.NO.  You can not get out of debt by taking on more debt...if you want a good example of this just look at the US Government.  So don't think that some magical $1000(or even $100) credit line will make all of your problems go away.

As for this report, your other problem is that you are relying on ATM for your balance.  As others have said you can not rely on these for various reasons.  The best thing you can do is maintain a WRITTEN register.  Writing down all of your transactions.  As well as reviewing their funds availability policy.  Because I would bet if you did you would realize that they are actually being consistant in the availability of your deposit.

The real interesting, and unrelated part, is that you said you are "missing" money, yet no one over there knows what you are talking about.  The strange part is that you don't even seem to know if it is 10K or 20K..that is quite a range to be unsure about.  For that it is an easy case of keeping all of your statements.  Because unless you go from one month with a balance of $20K(for example) and the next month you have $10K with no detail there would have to be something that shows where the money went.

"I went to the ATM in the grocery store to check my balance"

That balance did not reflect outstanding checks, service fees and debit transactions. Those outstanding transactions should be written in your check register and don't spend money until after deposited funds have become available. Here's another suggestion: GET A JOB.

Checking your balance at the ATM will always get you in trouble!

AUTHOR: Ken - (USA)

Here's why....When you look at your account on the ATM, it shows your account as of that exact time, and not other checks you've written or debit charges that haven't cleared yet.

If your ATM balance showed $100 and you had written checks in the last day or two or used your debit card, that amount would not show up as it had not been cleared yet.

Use a check register and do NOT enter the ATM provided balance in it....you must add in your deposits and subtract your check and debit card activity yourself.

Does your city have a free service to help people manage their finances?

You could really use a little assistance....Good luck.
