My fiance and I bought a diamond engagement ring back in December. Everything was great with the ring until 4 weeks ago. I took it to the local store to send it off because the stone was loose and chipped.

They told me that the store was being bought out, and that i would need to box it up and send off myself. I was not going to do this because we paid extra for a warranty and if they lost the ring I would be sol. So I was given a bunch of numbers to call and they told me they did not have our account info. (and still don't) and wouldn't for some time.

My fiance and I went back to the same store to tell them to take the ring back or replace it. And then she told us as of 1:00 they could send off repairs. I knew this was untrue because I had just talked to the corprate office at 1:30 not to mention she wanted to keep the original receipt. So we left it there but i called later that night to pick it up, because that did not sound right to me i didn't trust it.

I picked my ring up the next morning, and took it to another jewelry store. There they told me my ring was actually a man made ring called moyzanite that contains diamond filler. I took it to another jeweler and he said the same thing and it would cost more to maintain the ring than it was worth.

I then took it to another jeweler, his machine said diamond but when he looked at it under the microscope he said it was the poorest quality and his tester must be broken. I called Friedman's to tell them and got called a liar, and from that point on i was given the run-around. After weeks of calling even the new company that bought them out I finally talked to the head of the corporate office.

He told me that the sale didn't become final until April 11, 2008 and that no Friedman's store could send repairs (which they told me they could do) and he couldn't help me I would need to conact a Friedman's that was still open. I had called that one earlier and they said they were being shut down.

When called again today I told her what the man had said. She then told me they were closing but they were still friedman's. All I want is to give the ring back and they can even keep the payments that have been made but not charge us for the rest. The girl said her district manager told her she could not do that because they are trying to get rid off all inventory. But this not fair to us to have to pay off a ring that is not real, and that the warranty which we paid extra for will not cover.

I have since called the head offices of Friedman's but no one will take my call... even the district manager. The people in that store are very rude, and have lied just about everything. I don't know what else to do and would like to get this taken care of before they close for good.

I understand that they are closing but if they are so willing to stand behind their jewelry they need to take it back so i can get a true diamond engagement ring.

UPDATE

I finally got in touch with the home office, and i was told that the only way they could take the ring back is if they run it through as a re-po. So they would keep the payments that were already made, take the ring back, which is what we wanted, but also ruin my fiance's credit. There is nothing professional about his store, they are money hungry!
