I enrolled my child in several GenTech course and paid in full.  GenTech cancelled class sessions without providing "make up" session with instruction and refuses to extend prorated refunds.

GenTech advertises course start dates and times and accepts full payment, however, GenTech employs bait and switch techniques. Hence, course start dates and times are changed without notification and they refuses to provide refund.

GenTech is unable to provide any course syllabus, lesson plan, or quality assurance assessment to enable the payer to determine if they are indeed receiving what is offered in the course description.  GenTech course content has been unorganized, grossly lacking structure and sequential content.

GenTech Owner - Petty Thief & Liar

Hello All,

I just happened to come across this rebuttal form GenTech years later.  First, Ms. Thompson, I AM a DOCTOR! 2nd, I DO live in SOUTH HOLLAND.

Now on to the rest of your lies, my credit card company did not refund you one cent, there was no law enforcement sent to me in any form requesting that any of the sort of allegations.  There were not multiple lawsuits!  You dodged the summons remember??? And you did not show up in court! If you were so innocent

then why did you not show up in court, because I was there!

I just have not had the time to pursue this further as you can see years later, I have you on my "TO DO' list as you have no right to steal monies from me & my family.

Your programs are a joke!  For your information, we enrolled our child into a "real" technical program, which further underscored that your program was well under par.

To anyone considering sending your child to this program, please do your homework, go in and observe before you pay and google other like programs and you will clearly see that this program is nothing more than a patchwork program!

Let me be clear, we will have our day in court with you Ms. Thompson and you will refund our monies plus interest.

GenTech's Positive Reputation Substantiated

AUTHOR: Debra E. Thompson - ()

POSTED: Saturday, September 21, 2013

It is unfortunate that Ms. Tammy J****, not Dr. J**** (to my knowledge) from Country Club Hills (not from South Holland as purported in this complaint), has chosen this means as her final attempt to discredit the outstanding work GenTech has done over the past 10 years providing enrichment technology education to over 1000 young people and adults in digital media and technology.  She has filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau, IllinoisState's Attorney's Office, City of Chicago, and her own bank, Chase, complaining that she was "ripped off".  Every single agency she has contacted has told her she has no legitimate complaint.

They reviewed evidence that indicted  she was fully aware of the non-refund policy because she signed 3 separate documents on 3 separate occasions stating she had read, understood, and agreed to the terms.  Originally her bank "charged back" her payment to GenTech.  But after looking at the over 40 pages of documentation - and the fact that she happily enrolled her child in the program 3 separate times even her own bank, Chase, indicated that her story was unsubstantiated and Chase Bank REFUNDED THE MONEY BACK TO GENTECH.

Ms. J**** has also filed a civil law suit which she has tabled once GenTech lawyers and law enforcement contacted her regarding her misrepresentation in emails and actions that could be considered harassment. Although anyone who wanted to find me could do so at a very-well published location every day of summer camp, yet, she claims she cannot find me to serve a subpoena.

It seems Ms. J**** has a “hankering” for filing civil law suits and seems to file way more contract suits than the average person.  (I know I have never filed even one.)

However, a look at the civil court records in the Markham civil court logs (assuming these are all the same Tammy J****, and my apologies if not) show Ms. J**** seems to have a mild history of filing suits against various organizations.  One of which is SAV-RX Pharmacy whom she sued for $5366.03.

Filing Date: 7/20/2004

Case Type: CONTRACT

Division: Suburban Municipal Division

District: Markham

Ad Damnum: $5366.03

The case was dismissed.

Activity Date: 1/4/2005

Participant: SAV-RX

DISMISS BY STIPULATION OR AGREEMENT

She then filed:

Filing Date: 10/18/2004

Case Type: CONTRACT

Division: Suburban Municipal Division

District: Markham

Ad Damnum: $2653.77

The outcome?

Activity Date: 1/26/2005

Participant: J**** TAMMY

CITATION DEFENDANT DISMISSED

Perhaps she feels the third time she files a Contract lawsuit is the charm.  But, the facts indicate the verdict will probably turn out the same way the four major agencies and her bank viewed it.

1.  Ms. J**** read an advertisement for a different section of the same class for which her son was enrolled and attended for 8 of the 16 weeks scheduled.  Her child was brought to class in week 9 of the same class at the time of the new class - not the time her son had been attending for the 8 consecutive weeks before.  She then demanded a refund because her son came an hour late for class.  Her son was offered a private make-up class on the spot - while he waited for his second GenTech class of the day. Through phone conversations with her husband (?) who had brought her son, she became "challenging" to communicate with and the son left with the gentleman.

He did come back for the second class, however.  He completed both classes at the end of 16 weeks and received Certificates of Completion.  But, she still wanted a refund.

2.  Ms. J**** was aware of the "No Refund Policy" through the 6-page booklet on "Policies and Procedures" distributed to all those who register and had signed the Agreement with "GenTech Policies & Procedures" document.  She did not sign 1, nor 2, but signed 3 separate Agreements.

3.  The reason GenTech does not give refunds is because our classes are very small and as a not-for-profit organization, anything charged in tuition and fees goes directly into each student's class, eg., supplies, materials, software, robots and computer parts to be used and taken home by the students.  Once the monies are spent on the student and, especially once the student attends and uses the purchased goods, there are no monies available to be refunded.  We put your money where our mouth is.  We deliver what we promise.

4.  Syllabi, course content, Skills Checklists and more are all available to the parent of any student.  GenTech has all student instruction online, so students may receive handouts, but no books.  They have access to the instruction anytime they wish from home or at GenTech.

No business likes even one complaint from a customer - and GenTech is no different. We do everything possible to make our parents and students happy and try always to surpass people's expectations.  We live continue to staunchly focus and remained committed to developing exceptional programming in Digital Media and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Medicine (STEM).

At GenTech, we would rather focus on reaching our student Robotics, or App Development, or Game Design, or Aerospace Engineering as we do than making people unhappy.

Our Promise is to Help Our Students

Develop the Confidence to Explore

The Intelligence to Discover

The Leadership to Build With Excellence

Quite simply, that is who we are and what we will always do!  I personally have provided educational enrichment for over 35 years in New York, Los Angeles, Naperville, IL, and Chicago with pride and excellence.  I will NEVER lower my personal standards.

Look for GenTech Chicago to expand in the near future to GenTech New York and GenTech SanFran.  We will steadfastly continue to help our children prepare for the challenges of 21st century colleges, careers, and entrepreneurial opportunities.

I appreciate your reading this and hopefully understanding the facts of this situation.  I look forward to you and/or your child joining us in “The Exciting World of GenTech!”

Sincerely,

Debra E. Thompson

Executive Director
