Hello,

I won an auction for an item that weighed 3.49 lbs. with dimensions of 10"x10"x9". The price break down is as follows:

  • Total Products $8.00
  • Shipping $23.07
  • Handling $4.00
  • Total (before tax) $35.07
  • Tax $0.00
  • Additional Donation $0.00
  • Grand Total (USD) $35.0

There is no way the shipping cost from Portland to Texas usuing FedEx Ground services as is stated that they use, is $23.07. Atatch a $4 fee to that.

- On the Goodwill website under the HELP link there is even a section about the discrepancy in weight vs. shipping cost. Even with that explanation, after speaking with FedEX and reviewing their surcharge chart, Goodwill's shipping charge is beyond excessive.

- On the Goodwill seller shipping info area, it states;

 "-Shipping via FedEx: â€¨All items will ship via FedEx. FedEx shipping charges are calculated using the dimensional weight (volume) or the actual weight of the shipped package - whichever weight is higher.

-The listed weight of this item(s) may reflect the dimensional shipping charge for the final package, and not the actual weight of the item(s)."

Basically, stating the SIZE OF THE BOX VS WEIGHT OF THE BOX is how the shipping is calculated and the higher of the two costs will be chosen.

- On FedEx.com’s -Additional Handling Surcharges for Ground Shipping it states the following for DIMENSIONS:

1) measures greater than 60 inches along its longest side for FedEx Express or measures     greater than 48 inches along its longest side for FedEx Ground;

2) measures greater than 30 inches along its second-longest side for FedEx Express and FedEx Ground;

So, if dimension is what is being used, how could a package that measures 10”x10”x9” even come close to the above specifications for surcharge(s) ($14)? A cube sized box does not equate to Oversized. The Total Dimentionsal Weight is 7 lbs. Again, it does not add up.

I recall reading in  rebuttal they are not required to claim shipping since it is not income. Awesome. Until there is complete transparancy as to how this organization, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) actually balances out the shipping costs they charge, they will continue to lose customers in droves. Form 990 does not offer enough detail and a true audit is needed.
