Great American Gunstock Nice wood but incompetent shaping and inletting NO NEGOTIATING W/HENRY POHL Yuba City California

OK, I posted here first to say that the wood Henry Pohl sent me was better looking than I thought it would be. After reading all the negatives I was just relieved to get a really nice piece of wood - I didn't care that it was rough as a cobb - I figured that was part of finishing it myself. The big problem came when I tried to inlet the action - the action screw holes were so far off center that there was no way I could get a correct fit. I already had two days in filing, shaping, and sanding the stock; I'd already waited three months for the thing; it was a custom stock request - which all means I can't and I'm not sending the thing back. Rather than me tell you about Henry's position on me asking for a partial refund, I'm copying it here so you can see his reply verbatim:

"However, even if the hole is a little miscut, the stock was sent with the opinion that regardless of what minor blems their might be found in it it was nonetheless worth the asking price.

I regret that you don't feel this way, but I honestly think your judgement is somewhat severely and unfairly negative. Where else can you get a gunstock that nice for such a low price?"

A little miscut? The holes had to be bored out and plugged and recut and I may have to glass bed the action to get a reasonable fit and he says I have a negative attitude and should just be grateful that I paid $600 for a stock "that nice"?

Buyer beware, Henry Pohl talks a good game up front but his work is just crappy and after he's got your money, forget about any kind of negotiating.
