Hanfield Financial Group rip-off, scam, Consumer's Reward Program Lottery, Niagara Falls Ontario

I received a letter in the mail stating that a lottery ticket was drawn with my name attached to it. There was a sequence of numbers listed as the winning lottery numbers in a "second category". The letter went on to explain that the enclosed check for $3,900 was "for the applicable Tax" and gave a contact number with a couple of names of individuals with whom I was to speak so they could assist me "in finalizing [my] claim".

If you get one of these letters, don't waste the time calling the bank on which the check is drawn. The check is "fraudulent" according to the person I spoke with at the bank. Tear up the check, and consider yourself all the richer for not having wasted the 20 minutes to track it all down.
