i returned the car with tank full(actually little more the full),
had taken picture of the fuel meter while returning just as a precaution,

and yesterday i received a rental record which stated that i returned by car with 4/8 of the tank.

after 12 mins wait on the phone, the customer service person...said he would credit my card for the extra charges, which is good... but for you travelers please beware about this, and yes as a precaution take a picture...this is where our camera phones come in handy :)

wish you well

#1 UPDATE Employee

Charging Gas...they do that.

AUTHOR: Shamrock88 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 08, 2008

I am an employee for Hertz, the city and state need not be known. I just wanted to agree with the previous poster that customers SHOULD indeed take a picture of their gas tank, as well as the car itself.
See... we employees, especially out at the Instant Return, or Exit Gate, get a certain percentage of your charges for gas. Say for instance, you have 1/4 of a tank (we go by 1/8ths), and your charge is 57.09, every dollar/cent that we collect for gas is added up together at the end of the week. Say I have $2,765.58 in refueling, and my percentage for al of that is 28%, if that 28% is still there at the end of the month, all of my refueling $'s for the month are added up, and I get 1% of that on a bonus check. Kinda sketchy, huh?
Hertz offers bonuses for upgrades, insurance, fuel, and probably many other things. I just haven't been working there long enough to figure out what they are.
So...If you choose to rent from Hertz, don't get conned into something that you don't want, because the person thats renting to you is just smiling on the inside, thinking about how FAT their paycheck will be.
ALWAYS document yourself...if you don't wreck the car, take pictures. If you do refuel, take a picture. Seriously...what is it going to hurt??

And b.t.w.... they just started a new fuel option July 1st. So, they are no longer raping you in the butt...just raping you. It costs 4.** a gallon, PLUS a 6.99 fee (which they say is a one time fee..it isn't. Its one time per rental) A few weeks ago it was 7.** a gallon and that included the refueling fee. So...my opinion is just to rent, DONT upgrade, and take a picture of your fuel gauge.
Have a Great Day...and God Bless You!
