I was supposed to be my only sisters Maid of honor. I wanted the dress to be perfect. My sister gave all the girls a swatch that had the color called "Apple." Which is in the red family.

She told us that we can pick any dress that suited our body type. I am older then the other girls and I did not feel comfortable with the place that they went to because it was all strapless and spaghetti straps. Or they were Mother of the Bride type dresses. Needless to say, I found a dress I loved on the House of Brides web site. On the site they don't have color swatches but they did have color names. The first color said "Apple." I didn't hesitate and got myself measured to make sure that it will be the right fit. I put a "rush" and paid an extra $40.00.

Keep in mind all the other web sites that used the word "Apple" showed a red dress. Just to make sure I asked the Customer Service Operator Maureen if "Apple" meant red? She replied, "Of course what else would it mean."

Well I received my dress yesterday and IT'S GREEN! PUKE GREEN! I immediately called house brides econ department and they told me that "Apple" is green, that it is a universal known fact that apple means green. She began to laugh and say "In fact, I am looking at a nice shiny green apple on my desk right now." They had a fun time laughing at me and told me that there was nothing that they could do about it that is the color I ordered. I even looked on other bridal websites and all the ones that had swatches shown they also used the word "Apple" and it was in the RED family!

I even called the designer and they told me that they don't deal with the public they deal with retail shops. I even told them that I would purchase another one and they told me that it would not be sent in time.

I am devastated my sister began to cry and hung up the phone on me. I am not going to be apart of my only sisters wedding. I am so upset I want revenge! They can't get away with this stuff. They have ruined my sisters day and my relationship with her. I want it splattered all around that HOUSE OF BRIDES ARE LIARS AND CHEATS! I will be happy to start a chain of complaints all over the internet, on the news, door to door. Until that place of buisness is shut down! They are horrible horrible people with no souls!

Hope all goes well!!

Marina,

I hope it goes well and the Media is able to shut-down this unethical business. Even though they have over 120 BBB claims you can still make another claim.

I hope all goes well!! Thanks for your honesty!

AUTHOR: Marina - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, October 29, 2007

I really appreciate all of the support! It is a shame after I have seriously went out of my way to tell everyone about HOB lies and deceit! I have actually filed with the BBB; Unfortunatly, it did not end well with them because in my state they don't have 120 hits against them. So the BBB wanted me to hire an arbitrator. I was not willing to spend one more red sent! Well, greatfully, I have friends in the news media and they are working on a part II of Bridal Shop Scams focusing on the Glen Ellyn store. You are right, everyone that has had a bad experience with them and I know there are many! Should report them regardless of how big or small! I didn't sell the dress on E-bay; I am donating the dress to my daughter's school-play for the WICKED STEPMOTHER to wear!!! How appropriate right!!! HOB ARE LIERS AND CHEATS AND THEY NEED TO BE SHUT DOWN!!!

my friend was getting married and was looking for a dress for her. she had an appointment at the house of brides in schaumburg, il. when we got there, the lady who was supposed to help her wasn't ready yet, she was eating and talking to other people.

when she finally came to help us, she was very unfriendly and not helpful at all. she was mean to my friend, who was having trouble finding a dress to fit. she kept bringing dresses that were way too big for her to try on. so, we just walked out.

and, apple is RED at david's bridal. so, it's not out of line for her to have figured it would be red everywhere. try selling your apple green dress on e-bay.

Be careful as I have been trying to tell others on this site HOUSE OF BRIDES actively uses this site. Sometimes they use the name HOUSE OF BRIDES other times they use fake user names like Informed Consumer or Fuzzynutz. Listen, there is no way that Cory or Margaret does not work for HOB- just trust me on this one, I know how this unethical company play's its game. AUTHOR: Jen - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, October 22, 2007

I've had similar problems with HOB. i'm sorry about this other person who seems to have a sort of vendetta out against you.

I had someone do that to my post as well, including insinuate that i probably didn't even have a job. Well, i do, but...relevance please?

yes, you should be able to call a company, ask a question, and expect to be told the truth. This is fairly logical, good business practice...

I'd strongly, strongly, strongly (PLEASE) encourage you to file a report with the better business bureau. You can do it online and it won't take you long, you can basically copy and paste the above info.
When i did it last night, i discovered the Glen Ellyn HOB store has had (as of last night, 10-21-07) 122 reports filed against them in the last 36 months. Ripoffreports is great, but it doesn't DO anything except alert other customers. the BBB actually has some power to review your complaint, hopefully bring some restoration to the situation, and potentially help save future customers from similar problems.

Thank-you Jodi! You obviously are a person that knows how to stick up for themself and not hide in hopes it will all go away! Isn't it sad that this person has gone to such measures and still claims not to be affilated with HOB?? Sounds funny huh???? This person is supposed to be a writer yet everything I post they copy and change it around like they thought of it first!

Accused of slander for telling the truth is the funniest thing I ever heard! Bail $$$?? What sad sad company you work for!

Good thing there are still people out there with common sense and morals!

First, it's libel not slander. slander is spoken, libel is written. Second, there is absolutely nothing illegal about her post/complaint. There is no way ANYONE can sue her (Marina). As long as she feels that she was wronged by HOB, the complaint is valid and legal. She doesn't have to prove anything. The only way HOB could sue her is if she maliciously made up the story regarding the "apple" dress, with sole purpose to damage HOB. It's obvious she had a bad experience with the company, and she has every RIGHT to warn other people. Nobody here has ever mentioned the thought that her complaint was made up. In fact HOB supporters have went round and round with her about the dress mistake...so we all know it happened regardless of who's fault it was. So in the end her complaint here is legal, valid, and there's NOTHING ANYONE can do about it:)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 28, 2007

The only loser here is you! I am on here and many many other sites to warn people about the HOB!!! What's your deal "sad and alone from Villa Park." You are the pathetic one that lies to people. You are affilated with them this I am sure of. You better hope you are because then truly your the crazy one! I was screwed by HOB that is why I'm here. What's your deal? Sad and alone? There are other sites for that!

The BBB does work that way! Do your research because I have already filed a complaint with them! Guess what, they have taken my case because they even feel I have been wronged. They do deny cases if they feel you dont have one. If I lived in California I would have to file with the BBB in the state of CA. Then I would never see the complaint from the person in CA. That is exactly how it works "sad and alone."

Now, I will give you this much I don't have evidence. This is true but what I do have is a conscious and HOB does not. I did not accidently do anything! They misinformed me and LIED! It would not be so out of the ordinary for them to do that. People don't complain about wrong orders, sizes, color, getting them shipped late etc. without a reason. Are all those people Bridezillas?

Your the one that is looking like a fool. If you have no ties to that horrible place then you should cut your loses now because at this point it sounds like you are the owner that is desperatly trying to get me to stop!

If you are not worried about me doing damage to your shop then why do you care when I say.

Now you know how the BBB works? Sorry, wrong again. You really need to go back to school and educate yourself. I will not waste my time explaining to you as you clearly have comprehension problems. Along with many other problems.

All I know is, if I were the owner of House of Brides I'd slap a slander lawsuit against you so fast your head would spin.

Look at this case from a legal standpoint, (if you can find it within yourself to comprehend simple language) you cannot prove that anyone stole, lied or cheated you. Where is your evidence? Maureen told you Apple is red? Why hasn't your attorney filed a case? Because face it Marina, there is not an attorney on the planet that would take your case. You have hearsay, nothing more. You continue to slander a company without zero evidence. You name call when you lose a debate.

You've lost admit it. You're making a fool of yourself and your family.

First of all the BBB ONLY puts the complaints from the city the buisness is located. So all the other poor consumers that were riped-off by HOB can not complain to IL BBB. This site alone has MANY complaints! As you know the Internet is HUGE!!! I will not give you the satisfaction of knowing HOW MANY OTHERS I HAVE GONE TOO!!! The only reason you (HOB) respond to this site is because I SENT YOU ALL THE COMPLAINTS THAT WERE MADE AGAINST YOU! Keep being in the state of denial all you want bad press = bad buisness!! HOB does provide buisness all across the globe and wouldn't you know it that is were the major scams stem from!!! Ireland, New England, Germany etc... All of these places you cater too and they are all unhappy!!! hmmmm digruntal brides???? NO JUST SCAM ARTIST THEIVES!!!! Isn't the whole purpose of online shopping is so you can get a bigger selection to choose from? So d**n the people from another country??? They should have done their homework as well??? PLEASE! HOB ARE LIARS AND THEIVES!!! I will not reveal all the many, many other sites that are disgusted with the HOB! Besides one of the sites were set up by an ex-employee. The Better Business Bureau

AUTHOR: Informed Consumer - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, August 26, 2007

I went to the BBB site to check on House of Brides. They are in good standing.

112 complaints in a 36 month period. Look at other bridal store that are members of the BBB. They have nearly the same amount of complaints. Know why, because brides in general can be difficult customers. Look at wedding planners, caterers, DJ's, etc that provide wedding services. They too recieve complaints by brides as it is natural that brides want their wedding to be perfect. The problem is, there is no such perfect wedding when one focuses on "things" rather than the love and commitment that brought them to this place.

Now consider the volume of transactions a company makes compared to the amount of complaints. The BBB recommends that you do. When reading the testimonials on House of Brides website it is clear that they are selling worldwide, what other bridal shop does this? You do the math Marine. You state that there are hundreds of complaints out there, please provide these for all to see. I for one cannot find them.

Paranoia Big Destroy-a

AUTHOR: Fuzzynutz - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, August 25, 2007

'I am not going to be a part of my only sister's wedding'

'They have ruined my sister's day and my relationship with her.'

Your quotes Marina.

If the above is true, why would your sister want you at her special day to begin with?

Granted it doesn't say you will not be attending but if you can't even accomplish a simple act of ordering a red dress, you have deeper seeded issues than your troubled relationship with your sister.

Couple of things:

I would love to see your articles. Where can I find them? I DID a search of Marina from Orland Park and all I came up with was some wack job complaining about children safety seat laws. You say you love your children so I can't see why you would disagree about their safety. Surely that can't be you.

You rant and rave about something as trivial as a dress. Do you really think you have the power to close ANY business? Are you THAT grandiose? You are quite an amusing specimen.

Despite what you think, I do not have any connection to HOB at all. That just shows your paranoia. Your personal assault on me and others that disagree with you is what keeps me coming back to this thread. AGAIN you are quite amusing.
Unlike you, I AM a writer and have had things published outside the realm of a community newsletter.

I have done many articles about the 'bride-zilla's' but never about the bride-zilla's maid of horror. Thank you for the idea.

What you are doing Marina, is documenting yourself guilty of slander. The money you make from your 'articles' will help pay your bail and legal defense.

Finally, in reading your posts, you may be a more effective writer if you take an English class or two. It can help with your grammar and spelling and not make your editors job so difficult.

Now you can respond with your usual maddness and insanity.

You are insane!!! Truly HOUSE OF BRIDES hires crazy people. First of all, No where did I ever say I won't be attending my sister's wedding! Your nuts! Second of all Google all you want! You will only find fantastic things about me in my community! Great pictures as well!

As a represenitive of House of Brides you do a poor job trying desperatly to maintain some kind of dignity. Once again you've failed! You are dying to find out the published articles this I know; because it hurts your buisness this I will make sure of. Everytime you write something I just have more material to write for my next article. Bring it on!!! You just making more money for me!! You have no idea what you are talking about! It's called "reaching." Your comments make no sense.

By the way, I have proofreaders it called editing. So if I have gramatical errors there not in my finely tuned articles. That's what editors get paid to do! Silly silly fool! You can "reach" all you want! Bottom line HOUSE OF HORRORS LIE AND STEAL CONSUMERS MONEY! When you ask the idiots that answer the phone if Apple is red and they say yes! What other questions do I need to ask?? Don't be in denial House of Brides; if I wasn't lighting a fire under you; you wouldn't be so upset!

You know you lied and you will be called out! Deny all you want; the truth is the truth!! Didn't they do a special edition on the news a few months ago about bridal places scamming consumers??????? House of Brides was one of them!!! This I know because I do my research where it counts!!! I'm looking to do a follow up on that news edition!!

POSTED: Friday, August 24, 2007

Hey Marina,

You've lost me with your lack of facts. Anybody who has experience in research knows that someone named Mr Beah does not own House of Brides. And you said you did your homework before ordering. Tsk, tsk.

Who employs you as a staff writer? Do they know that your publishing bad information? Do they know that you have a problem with grammer? Your attention to detail lacks severely? If you want to display your credentials you might want to spell check and fact check before bragging.

And why did you thank someone who states they quit retail because of people like you? You're not looking so good here girlie.

How many mistakes can we count to date? Not looking good at all.

What would happen if I google Marina from Orland Park, Illinois? Can't be that many Marina's in Orland Park can there? Not exactly a common name, if this is your name. I can assume that I will find many articles written by you?

When I google House of Brides I will find your published articles? Sorry, already did, found none. Unless you consider your rant here to be considered a published article.

There are still plenty of red dresses available for purchase but for some reason I believe a red dress has nothing to do with your strained relationship with your sister. You state you will not even be attending your sisters wedding. How sad for your children that their aunt will no longer be in their lives over a stupid dress.

I know that the person that wrote "Too Far" is a HOB employee because they know I write for a paper! My paper already published 3 articles of mine regarding your wrongful way of dealing with the public! With the permission of other people that have the same complaints their stories were also published! In fact HOB YOU HAVE BEEN IN THE PAPER THREE TIMES THIS MONTH!!!

The response from the public has been great because they all have the same kind of horror stories about your establishment; and other bridal places. People need to be warned!!! Customers like this are the reason I got ouf of retail. People can be totally irrational and crazy. Wherever the mistake lies, these circumstances don't justify such irrational behavior.

I'm sure she'll respond now, writing in caps and detailing again why it isn't her fault and why she has a right to behave so erratically. Or, better yet, she'll attack me personally. Either way she'll prove my point: This has gone far beyond a dissatisfied customer. This woman has serious issues in her life that have nothing to do with the service some company provided her.

Boy Marina, you must have really hit a sensitive nerve with Fuzzynutz! He's trying his heart out to hurt you personally now. He seems offended by your claims regarding HOB...and he says he's not an employee?
Mostly, it seems odd to me a man using the name fuzzynuts (I couldn't imagine a woman would call herself that) would also have knowledge in high end fabrics...odd. One last thing, Fuzzynutz says "No matter how you cut it, you have knowingly purchased an APPLE GREEN dress." Obviously she didn't 'Knowingly' buy the apple green dress. You/Fuzzynutz meant to say she 'unknowingly' bought that color.

I am not affiliated with HOB in any way, shape or form. I am a freelance writer looking for article topics. Your anger at a company for a mistake that YOU have made, as well as your childish name calling and psychotic rants concern me. I wonder if your children or those around you are safe being around such an unstable person. Could THIS be a reason your sister is so upset with you?

No matter how you cut it, you have knowingly purchased an APPLE GREEN dress. Even at the HOB website there is a disclaimer that they are not responsible for colors ordered.

Research any designer that deals with high end fabrics like those used by the professional designers in the bridal industry, as those used by HOB. You will be enlightened to find out that "Apple" is in FACT green.

Once again, YOU have made a MISTAKE. You shouldn't blame others for it.

BTW this is the CORRECT way to spell RUINED.

You see, ANOTHER mistake you have made. So it IS possible.

Don't feel bad. EVERYONE makes mistakes.

I can go buy hundreds of dresses that are red...IT'S THE POINT OF THE MATTER! You are a meek person and meek people don't stand up for themselves! So you don't understand how to stick up for yourself! You are the type that instead of standing up for the truth you would rather have it all go away! Well guess what I'm not going away! I will remain telling everyone House of Horrors are LIARS AND CHEATS!!! SHUT THEM DOWN! SHUT THEM DOWN!!!

I have no connection whatsoever to House of Brides. However, you state that your relationship with your sister is ruined, among other things. Are you telling everyone that your relationship with her is that unstable as that she wants you out of her wedding and her life? I know that brides can overreact over the details, but this sounds borderline crazy. If you really think that having an "apple" red dress will save your relationship with her, get off the internet and go buy one. Stop blaming a company for your rocky relationship with your sister or for the fact that you (claim) to have taken an employee's word for the color instead of taking a minute to go see it in person.

I Have Contacted...

AUTHOR: Fuzzynutz - (U.S.A.)

...Several designers that specialize in high end custom made products and they all concur that the dye "Apple" is in FACT green, but they did say that most "cookie cutter" dresses use fabric manufactured in Taiwan, a lower quality fabric as compared to those used by HOB designers and there is no standardization of fabric colors with these low end, less expensive fabrics. These can be the type of garment purchased by the rest of the bridal party.

Unfortunately for you, you chose to do business with a company that deals with clients accustomed to purchasing designer dresses and they know what questions to ask. It's not your fault. You're obviously not used to this type of purchase. I understand from the professional designers that things like this happen at times.

Instead of revenge, you need to start thinking how to mend fences with your estranged sister. You seem to be focused a bit too much on revenge for something that was your mistake. It may be a bitter pill to swallow but it is true.

Who is the person at HOB that informed you, as you say, that "Apple" was red? Also, you may have noticed on the HOB website that they are not responsible for choice of color. It says so in their terms and conditions along with other helpful information.

Did you read them?

Know What You Are Talking About First

AUTHOR: Fuzzynutz - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, August 17, 2007

Dear Marina,

As I have posted in your other site that you started, high end fabrics as those used in the bridal industry consider "Apple" as being green. Perhaps the off the rack dresses that were purchased by other members of the bridal part are not the quality of those used by professional designers.

YOU have made a mistake. Plain and simple. Now you try to place blame and try to save face with your sister and the obviously fragile relationship that you both have.

I have a couple of suggestions for you:

1) Wear your APPLE GREEN dress to the wedding. I'm sure you'll be just lovely.

2) Buy yourself an "off the rack" red dress and sell your designer dress on eBay. You may even profit from this.

3) CHILL OUT! Being so upset over a dress that you have mistakenly ordered without researching the dress itself and blaming others for your mistake is not only ridiculous but borderline insane.

It is my understanding that the HOB website spells EVERYTHING out clearly. It is up to the consumer to read and research the facts and figures prior to placing their order and more importanty, giving up your credit card number.

To seek revenge and making a menace of yourself on the internet can land you in a heap of trouble. Do you really think a dress is worth it?

I am a member of the media that has investigated consumer issues for quite a while. When a consumer complains irrationally, like you are doing, it usually turns out that the consumer did not take the time to fully investigate the product or service ordered.

HOB processes hundreds of orders daily. Only a few people are dis-satisfied. Most are quite pleased with the professionalism that the HOB staff has given. You are in the minority with your complaint.

So take a breath. Relax over a glass of chardonay and think how beautiful your "only sister" will be on her wedding day. Be happy for her and don't give her any more drama than she is already experiencing in putting a wedding together.

No... the House of Brides does not have color swatches on the website. Shouldn't it still be the the same when you ask the bridal shop if Apple means in "Red" family? They are lieing to the people to make a sale!

No color swatches on the website?

AUTHOR: Informed Consumer - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 15, 2007

If there are no color swatches on the website then how would a representative know what color Apple is? Do the representatives have special powers? Can they see colors that nobody else can see?

Did you visit the manufacturers website? Did they not advise that you view colors in person?

Funny that all of the other girls in your bridal party were able to accomplish the goal of purchasing a red dress. They obviously made sure that they selected a dress that was available in the color your sister requested.

Are you sure your sister isn't mad at you because you did very little to help her with her wedding planning? You obviously did not read all of the information that was available on the website. I read it, I comprehended it. In the Terms it states you should veiw colors in person.

You want revenge? You care so little about your sisters wedding that you are spending all your time on revenge rather than spending your time getting a red dress?

You might want to think about what is important in life and get over the mistake that YOU made.

Of course I questioned the color of the dress!

AUTHOR: Marina - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 14, 2007

The website does not have swatches online! I called the Glen Ellyn House of Brides and asked them and they told me that "Apple" was red! They said that Celedon was Green! So then I proceeded on with my purchase! I got perfessionally measured! I did everything that I was supposed to do to get the dress I wanted! So no of course I didn't go in blind folded why would I risk that!

#1 Consumer Suggestion

You ordered a dress online without viewing a color swatch?

AUTHOR: Informed Consumer - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 14, 2007

I have purchased wedding attire online at houseofbrides.com

I called the tollfree number and spoke with a representative who guided me to the designers website so I could get an idea of how the dress colors looked. I was not on hold very long because I learned a long time ago do not call on Monday's. I never call my doctor, cable company or any other place I am dealing with on Mondays. I find its best to call midweek in the afternoon.

Even the designers website recommends that you view color swatches in person. They even offer a link to find stores in your area where swatches are available to view. I chose a Dessy style and their website advised me that colors on the internet will vary by computer monitor.

I did not risk not seeing colors in person. I went to my local store and viewed them in person. I did my homework. Which I did not mind, I saved a ton of money by doing my own legwork. The store in my town wanted almost twice as much for the dress. My moto is...you get what you pay for. If you want full service at a salon then you must pay for it.

No offense to your dilema, but when I think of the color apple I think of green because I eat a lot of apple Jolly ranchers.

What is the ol saying, when you assume........

The moral of my story is...when your making a major purchase online or in person you must understand the terms of your purchase. The bridal business as a whole has very strict policies in a store or online.

I'm very happy with my purchase at houseofbrides.com
