Purchased a new HP TouchSmart tx2-1375dx Notebook on Oct. 22, 2009. Conveniently (for HP) On Nov. 7, 2010 the integrated video card craps out. Tech "support" offers a $49.95 diagnostic. We tell them what the error messages said before we only get a black screen, so we don't need a diagnostic. They say a new integrated card will cost about $300. We ask if this is a common problem and they say that this is the first time they have heard about it. After hanging up we do a little research and there are hundreds if not thousands of similar complaints. This product is a lemon with a history of failure almost immediately after warranty runs out. Do not ever but an HP product, we certainly will never buy another one.

HP Laptop GPU issues

In response to all the complaints about GPU failures I would like to add this comment. I specialize in repairing these GPU issues for many years and have a total of 35 years experience in computer hardware.
The real problem with all laptops that have Graphic Processors is in the cooling. Laptops have limited internal space and the cooling systems are designed for the needed air flow to cool the processor. The problem srises when the laptop has been used for one or two years and has dirt and debris in the air flow channel causing the processors to overheat. Once this overheat senerio has taken place it is too late. The damage is done.
The ONLY way to prevent any laptop from overheating is to clean the cooling system air passages on a regular basis. This problem plagues ALL laptop manufactures, not just HP. But they do not see it as a problem because it creates built in obsolences.
If you do not want to be bothered with cleaning your laptop, then buy one that does not have a graphic processor. Intel based graphics run the coolest. But if the cooling system gets completely clogged, then the CPU will eventually fail. It is the nature of the beast. Until manufactures can build chips that reuire no airflow, this problem will always be there.
