AOL terminated my account with no warning and no reason. Calls to India advise me to write a letter to their Community Action Team. This is a Company that has been charged with deceptively adding adware to they software they provide, disclosing subscribers search queries that included names addresses, health info, causing all sorts of problems when a paying customer attempts to cancel, and a host of other atrocities.

I acknowledge their right to terminate, however they should provide a warning, a chance to answer and correct, and the ability to retrieve my personal information stored on their site. I certainly would suggest that anyone using AOL to reconsider that decision, or at least, move and store your information on your hard drive.

I have no idea of what I did to deserve this, but I assure you, it has caused much anxiety. I do not wish it on anyone. I would ask that you write your Congressman and request legislation that would allow a terminated subscriber a short period of time to retrieve information and contacts. This regulation would apply to any service. Thanks for your time.

AOL PC Checkup premium "Do NOT ORDER"!!!!!

AUTHOR: Carlyn mccabe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, September 11, 2010

Recently Aol has been sending those pop -ups to order AOL PC Checkup Premium,I was ignoring it at first but lately my computer has been so slow:The offfer was Free Trial for 30 days and 4.99 a month after the Free trial,I figured only 4.99 a month, and it would check up and fix any problems,I gave it a shot,I followed all the instructions each time a file was supposedly corrected I received a message corrected, the final message was close all Software and the system will reboot.

Well Guess what????Once the system rebooted and the computer started up again,I had this weird screen,it was all blurry and my emails were all jumbled together, all my programs were shutting down,Internet Explorer was flashing on and off!!! It was like a bad dream!!!!

I called AOL technical support, naturally it was automated,I requested to speak with a live rep,the rep at Aol tech support was baffled, she put me on hold and asked me to shut down and restart I did the problem only got worse!!

I was referred to software Technical support at 866-485-9225 , the first time I called I explained the problem and I was cut off, I called back and expalined a second time was cut off again! I was ready to SCREAM . The third time I was on hold listening to announcements and after 15 minutes a rep answered. I spoke to Travis ,I expalined the problem,he said he never heard of this,he asked me to go on Internet Explorer,I tried but it kept on flashing ,I tried to sign on,it was just frozen.

Travis said he would have to check further with his supervisor,I was on hold for another 10 minutes,Travis asked me to turn computer off ,try and reboot, the same jumled screen.Travis apologized and said it appeared Aol may have to reimburse me for all my software and it looked like there was not much that could be done!???

I told him that my computer was fine before there Pc Checkup  and I was not going to just accept this,Travis said we could try one last thing ,he walked me thru a system restore, which was about 4 steps and after about 15 minutes my software and screen came back to normal.

Travis advised I should call and cancel that Aol Pc checkup and advise what happened,he said this was not suppose to happen! Do not order this,I do not know if this is done intentionally or what, but what if Technical Support could not help???

This is totally unacceptable,Don't they test their programs before they sell them?Thank you Travis, but Aol your PC Checkup premium REALLY SUCKS!!!

Thanks rip-off report,I hope everyone is reading this don't order this pc checkup avoid problems !!!!!!

Same Deal Here: Need my Saved Emails, Contacts, Stored Business/Personal Info from last 8 Years!

AUTHOR: Unitedwestand - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, May 29, 2009

I am in exactly the same situation. None of the master screennames of this account were notified that we had committed a TOS Violation. Strangely, I couldn't get into two of my accounts last month, had to reset the passwords, and believing it was possibly due to being hacked by a virus that took down my system a couple of months back, I checked both Sent Mail folders to be sure no Spam had been sent. None was found, and as the other 3 Screennames on the account had no problems, and I'd changed my password, I figured I was fine.

A few weeks later, same problem, can't login, but this time, password reset not working. This was 2 days ago. I called and when I finally managed to bypass the whole "AOL won't let you talk to a live person if this isn't a paid account" deal, got a live person and they told me the same ridiculous nonsense. "I'm sorry but we can't give you any information, you must contact the CAT Team in Virginia". I live in California! How is that going to help me get back into business anytime soon, if they even answer?!?

Yes, it is now a Free account. But We were loyal PAYING customers for almost a decade! We still clicked on your links, used your site, and helped rack up ad revenue...

Tiger, if you can help me, one of my screennames is mianova00, my primary one is too personally identifying to add here, but the main one was polosur.

Were you able to fix this?

AUTHOR: Tiger - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, April 14, 2009

Give me your screenname and I'll try to contact someone from the CAT team.

They terminate hundreds of accounts every day because of violations of the terms of service, non payment, etc

If yours was a mistake they probably will reinstate it and compensate you for the inconvenience. Let me know if I can help out.

cheers

Be glad to be rid of them...

AUTHOR: George - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, February 22, 2009

AOL is the biggest ripoff of any internet provider, you should be glad to be rid of them. Now you can sign up with a REAL isp. Be sure and uninstall all of the AOL virus from your system, and run a spyware program like Ad-Aware or Spy Bot to make sure it's gone.
