This site advertised as a free gay dating site. To gain access to the profiles you had to submit a profile. I uploaded a profile with a picture and went to gain access to the site. At that time, I learned that you HAD to PAY a subscription fee to view other profiles. I then tried to delete my profile from the site. It was impossible, you have to PAY the subscription fee to change or delete your profile. I emailed the owner of the site and asked him to immediately remove my profile from the site. In return I received a nasty email calling me names and implying that I was a liar. All I wanted was for my profile to be deleted.

The owner of the site sent me this: "You expect the internet to be some giant charity for scumbags looking for free porn." Well, actually NO, I wasn't looking for porn, I thought the site was what it purported to be, a dating site for gay men.

AVOID THIS SITE LIKE THE PLAGUE!

Report him to the FTC

AUTHOR: Bigjoe - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 10, 2010

Here are a few things which I did to stop the spam. I sent him a couple of links.

And told him that if it continued that I would report him to the Federal Trade Commission.

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/tech/tec02.pdf copy and pace this one.

This link tells you to report spam if a removal request is not honored.

If we get all of you guys to report him. The FTC will go after him.

Smarter than a Fifth Grader?

AUTHOR: Richard - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, November 30, 2009

I have also had the same thing happen and continue to get emails from Gayroughnecks.com. I have asked to be removed several times from this so called "dating" site and have followed the removal process on several occasions only to keep getting emails.

I also received the insulting psycho emails from the company it seems that every one receives the same wacko email when they ask to be removed.

The rebuttal is a bunch of hogwash the site owners excuses do not hold water. Any fifth grader could figure out how to do a database matching system to weed out so called "trouble makers" besides using profile names is not a very valid way of matching as one can simply change the name they use on the site if they are foolish enough to sign up again.

I agree with James from NC AVOID GAYROUGHNECK SITES LIKE THE PLAGUE!

James hit the nail on the head.

AUTHOR: Ed - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, December 09, 2005

I too was suckered in to create a free profile. That is the only thing that is free about this site, well that, and the fact that you can see the two or three other people on the site that are chatting.

I had the exact same experience as James and even got a nasty response from owner that was almost verbatim as the one that James got. I sent replied to the owner and got an even nastier response saying that someone who is looking for free porn on the internet is one rung lower on the ladder than the pedophile Michael Jackson or a Catholic priest. In reality, I was not looking for free porn. I have paid subscriptions to three other sites....good ones I might add. Also, they solicited me, I did not solicit them. They sent me an email from one of the sites that I subscribed to (real ethical business practice, huh?!).

This owner is a real piece of work. He tells you to be a responsible internet user and to read the TOS. I did read the TOS and no where in there did it say that you will not be able to delete your profile without having subscribed first. This was back in the spring so it might have since been changed, but I doubt it.

The other guy is right. The **real** reason you cannot delete your profile is because they want the sight to look like there are about 1000-fold more users on the site than there actually are. When, in reality, there was never more than one or two people chatting at any one time.

I am sure this guy gets lots of complaints and must send form letters out with his nasty comments because his response is almost identical to the one I got back in the spring.

I am going to let some buddies know about this link and let them share their experience. This site was the laughing stock when I brought it up at a bear event in the summer. Seems a lot of other guys realized it was ripoff too and just wanted to get their profiles off.

Caveat emptor!

Typical ripoff dating site.

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

What a fun bunch Gary's company must be. Who wants to do business with them now? I love it when a rebuttalist from the company so blatently shoots themselves in the foot and confirms the original reporter's story.

A reputable dating site would be willing to immediately remove a profile from public view at the subject person's request. One hopes that they will find true love at some point and not need to advertise on dating sites any more.

Sites like the one reported keep all the profiles to make it appear that there are a bunch of available dates for potential subscribers. The newcomers who are about to be ripped off don't realize that nearly all of the profiles are dead ends; people who no longer subscribe or never did.

Typical sass from a typical internet consumer

AUTHOR: Gary - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, December 01, 2005

Nice that this complainant took a partial sentence of our response and twisted it to fit his needs. Fact is, we cannot delete profiles because of people like him. When he returns to one of our many sites, and they almost invariably do, we need to be able to match the troublemaker with their past records across all of our sites/databases. Because of scumbags like this one who think that a company's services should be provided to them for free, we have to keep every record, and every email address and every IP and login time for every user. That way when they cry to sites like this or other agencies we can cover our asses. And it's not like we're trying to rip anyone off. Our subscription prices are consistently lower than any other gay adult site. Typically a year runs $36 to $48 but we regularly have sales selling a year for $24. Now, if you're in the boat with this complainant, take heed: be a responsible internet user, read a sites terms of service BEFORE you create an account, and if you're looking for a free ride, turn off your computer.
