Because of car problems and because of a recent death in the family my girlfriend filed her taxes at Jackson Hewitt on Lincoln Trail in Radcliff and we did the "Money now" loan. We needed the money now because we anticipate having to travel out of state for a funeral and one of our cars is down for the count right now.

We'll she filed her taxes on Thursday and applied for the money now. Then she was told they couldn't file untill Friday because the Government wasn't taking returns untill Friday.

The "money now" claims to be available in 1-2 days but we found out now to expect the money on Tuesday. Last I checked Tuesday wasn't 1-2 days from Thursday.

NTM, they are totally unprofessional. Over the phone the branch said they were closed on Sunday and then when we called their corporate and regional offices they said they were open on Sunday. Why lie to customers and tell them you will be closed on a certain you aren't. Why lie and say you can have your money in 1-2 days and advertise it on TV if it's gonna take the better part of a week?

Last I checked it was ad fraud.

We are very upset at that and the fact that corporate will tell us one thing and then someone else at the office will say something else.

24 hours AFTER THE IRS ACCEPTS YOUR TAXES

AUTHOR: Deborah - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, January 24, 2009

I worked for Jackson Hewitt for 9 yrs. I won't say that some offices do things that aren't right, but one thing that sometimes isn't explained correctly is that the 24-48 hours is 24-48 hrs AFTER THE IRS ACCEPTS YOUR RETURN.

Every year there is a date to start filing electronic tax forms, this year the date was January 15th, I don't remember last yrs date. You can (and many do) go to an office of Jackson-Hewitt, Liberty Tax, H&R Block or any other office offering similar services and complete your return, but it can not be filed electronically until the date specified by the IRS. The first week or so is a nightmare, sometimes a glitch in the software of the company, usually the overload at the IRS. Once the return is accepted by the IRS it is sent to Santa Barbara Bank and Trust, this is one of only a few banks that do this type of loan. Then they decide whether or not to give you the loan. I honestly do not know if they check credit scores or just go by your return and your history with them. Remember this is a LOAN which is secured by your refund.

As a former manager that tried very hard to make sure that all customers understood everything involved in this loan, I apologize for the problems you had at the office you went to.

#2 UPDATE Employee

IRS

AUTHOR: Taraos - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, January 23, 2009

The IRS did delay accepting E-files until Sunday night due to network issues. The return has to be accepted by them first and of course, you can't owe money on things or they will snatch it up.

There were also several issues with the bank funding the loans. Most franchises are closed on Sunday, but they probably didn't set the corporate side of the site up properly to reflect that.

Also.. you're talking about a RAL. The Money Now Loan is 1 hour, assuming the banks have their ducks in a line.

RAL way late -- An employees' view of things at Jackson-Hewitt.

AUTHOR: Tclark118 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, January 22, 2009

First, we have one day that was taken from us because the customer applied the day before the IRS was even accepting returns.

24 hours.

Next, we have the day the IRS actually received the app. Friday. With Lord only knows how many other returns from the past two weeks from the whole nation who were able to file early.

48 hours.

Then, Saturday comes along. Most of us did not even know until the night before, or even the day of, whether or not we were going to have a Sat or Sun schedule, which explains seeming inconsistencies of the company between were we going to be closed or open.

Myself, I received a last minute call to open a store on Sun only on Sat night, so I know what I am talking about.

72 hours and now 96 hours have passed.

Monday comes, and the IRS is finally up to full speed, actually processing returns as they come in electronically. This return was also most likely among them.

I notice that this customer did not make any remarks as to when he or she actually got the money or any kind of understanding or apology.

Tuesday must have been a good day for them, no doubt when they received their money.

No doubt that some amends could be made if he bothered to ask a store manager for some kind of comeuppance, be that whatever it may.

I would say that, given Friday was a starting day, and there was a weekend involved after, the customer did very well on time.

5 days is really one heck of a turnaround with a weekend... in my experience. IF the customer had heard all the preparer had to say, he or she would have been made to understand that the MONEY NOW RAL situation is guaranteed to be paid within 24 HOURS OF THE IRS PROCESSING THE RETURN, not within 24 hours of filing.

The IRS is a government run entity. It holds no obligation to your rent, a funeral, your car breaking down, your baby needing formula, your dad passing away, a tornado wiping out your entire town, or the $500 you owe your neighbor from last spring. It does not care if you have a disease or your car's engine needs replacing, and it certainly is not at fault if you become evicted from your place of living.

Take heed, readers. If you would know a man, walk a mile in his shoes first. I want anyone who feels they could do better on this to spend a week as a tax preparer for Jackson-Hewitt.

I give people two promises in life: Death and Taxes. I will assist them in filing their taxes, as well. The rest of life is up for grabs.

You see reality as an employee. Any view of "Poor Customer Service" is a heartache, but an unfortunate reality in some cases.

This time of year, many preparers are fresh from training and not equipped with EXPERIENCE that only comes from DOING.

Be understanding. We are human, too. We love our jobs. We occasionally will be guilty of human error.

Peace.
