I looked up LBAC to find out what my payoff is on my vehicle, and was totally surprised to see all these stories about them. I read each one and could totally understand what these poor people are going through, and was also glad that I wasn't the only one who has gone through this with this company.

Back in October 2001, I was late on a payment (which was due on Oct. 14) so I made check by phone arrangements to have the payment taken out of my account on Oct. 29. We were due to move to Washington State on November 2, so while I had them on the phone, I gave them the address and telephone number to our new home. My husband and I went to the bank to close our checking account on November 1 and I expected there to be around 3.00 left in the account. I was astonished to hear the bank teller tell us that there was 263.00 in the account. I explained that 260.00 was my car payment that was due to come through and could I leave that amount in to cover it. It was not their policy and I had to take everything out to close the account. Since we were due to leave the next day, we decided to close the acct. and send Lbac their payment when we opened our new checking account in our new state. Which we did upon arriving in Washington.

The same afternoon I mailed the payment, I received a call from Anthony at Lbac. He wanted to know where my payment was. When I explained what happened, he was less than understanding, to say the least, and started yelling at me, accusing me of having no intention whatsoever of ever paying off my car and that I fleed the country with it. If that was the case, how were they able to get in touch with me? I told him I wanted him to talk to my husband who would tell him the same story and he yelled at me more, cussing me out and telling me that he didn't want to talk to my husband. I gave the phone to him anyway and it was amazing how Anthonys tone changed once my husband told him to never talk to me that way again.

They would not accept my new check because their check by phone payment bounced, and they threatened to repo my car ( take a picture of your car Mrs. Conrad because today is the last day you will ever see it) were his exact words. They wanted their money by quick collect today or else, however my husband explained we weren't sending any money until they send us the check they would not cash. No can do they said. We were so afraid that they would take the car, we had to cancel the check we sent, a $25.00 charge as well as the 12.50 charge to wire the money.

Fast forward to Sept. 17, 2002. My husband was laid off and I was trying to find work as well as he in a poor economy. Lbac called because my payment was late(due the 14th) and who do I get on the phone but the same guy as before. I know this because he said his name was Anthony and he used the same tactics as before and I will never forget that voice!!!

I finally developed some balls and told them that I know my rights and they needed to stop the harrassment, but I was informed that I did not have any rights. I asked to speak to a manager (I was in tears by this time) and they got one. I first complained about Anthony and his collection practices and was told that this was not the same Anthony as before.(yeah right) and the manger was just as rude, but offered me a two month deferal. A

fter I had calmed down and asked what needed to be done, the manager said "oh now you want us to help you?" After making me sweat a few minutes she agreed to the deferal and that she would fax me the paperwork that day. Never got the deferal papers and Lbac continued to call every day. I explained about the deferal I was supposed to get, yet everyday they called to harass me. I finally got the deferment papers on Oct. 1, 2002.

I am now trying to buy a new car, but after reading all of these stories, I am afraid to find out what my credit report looks like. And yes, I had to go through Lbac because of my credit, but if it was so bad, why did they finance me in the first place?
