Three years ago we purchased a $46,000 Mecury Mountaineer Premier from Long Mcarthur. From day one we experienced nothing but problems with this car. In the first 90 days of ownwership it was in the shop for several different issues for a total of 45 days. Some of these issues were repeat problems.

One in particular was the transmission which would not come out of park. On two seperate occasions the truck had to be dragged out of our garrage by a tow truck. Another time my wife and children were standed at a park while I was out of town and the car refussed to come out of park again. We made several requests to have the car replaced and the dealership nor Ford would honor the request stating they fixed the issues. The transmission shifter is still not working properly to this day.

Another repeat issue is that whenever we run the air conditioning for over 30 or 40 minutes it begins to flood the inside of the car to the point that it smells badly and the floor-matts are dripping wet.

With the economy as bad as it is we made the decission to purchase out the lease even though we had experienced so many issues with the car. It was just very challenging to replace it without the payment almost doubling. Again in this economy who wants to increase their bills at a time like this.

Prior to the purchase we once again brought the car into Long Mcarthur and had them repair some new issues and the two frequent repeat issues with the transmission and flooding. They told us the repairs were made and the car was fine, so we went through with the purchase.

Four months later when we once again took the car on a trip over 30-45 minutes the floor again became saturated and the car smelled badly. We then returned to long Mcarthur and showed them the car was still having the same problem they said they repaired a few months earlier. I was told by Tim the service tech that since it was a repeat problem on an issue they had already repaired it would be taken care of.

After several days of the dealership not retuning my phone calls I finally got through to the receptionist. She stated Tim was gone for the day and she would go and check on the status of my car. When she returned to the phone she said the car was all set and the problem was solved and I could come pick it up whenever I was ready.

I stoped by after work and asked for my car. There was alot of wispering going on and I was finally told the car was not ready. They explained that that had to remove the dashboard to get to the problem and had not had a chance to put it back together. They also siad I could call Tim in the morning and it should be all set by then. Again my phone calls went unanswered and I had to leave work to go over there personally.

Once I arrived I was informed it was the A/C evaporater that was now causing the problem and it would be $1500.00 to fix it. I argued that it was supposed to fixed 4 months ago and that they had at that time assured me it was. They tried to explain to me that this was a new problem. Obviously there are several issues with your a/c that can cause the floor boards of your car to become saturated. How convenient! I explained I was not paying that and they needed to stand behind their work for once.

I was referred to Dave the service manager and he told me there was nothing they could do. The truck was no longer under warrenty and as far as they were concerned this was a new problem. He also stated that based on my service history the car had not been there for three years. I have the service history and that is a bold face lie! In the end he told the service tech to put my truck back together because there was nothing they could do for me.

We then spent the next few days calling Ford and the owner of Long Mcarthur
to no avail. Each continued to say it was the other persons responsibility. In the end it seems to me that one, this car is clearly a lemon and should be fixed properly or replaced. And two, Long Mcarthur should stand behind the work the perform in their shop and when the clearly fail to fix something correctly then make it right. Instead they lie, dodge responsibility and place the blame on others.

I would caution anyone reading this to not by a ford because coperate does not stand behind the cars they build. When we are talking about a $50,000 automobile that is crazy. No wonder they are going bankrupt. Additionally the buisness practices of Long Mcarthur are sleezy at best and criminal at worst. Stay far away from them!
