After my account was sold to 5 other companies, Creditor's financial finally purchased it. I began my campaign for validation to the Sherman Companies by sending them the same letter sent to other agencies requesting validation of debt. Naturally due to the age of the account, the OC nor the agencies could provide this information. The OC even told me they don't keep any information on accounts past 18 months. Every month I receive numerous calls from them and letters from one of the Sherman group. Every month I respond by sending them a request for validation and advise them of the time and date of each collection call I received. (Yes, I know they are supposed to stop all collection activities until validation has been performed.) This last month their letter said something slightly different ....
"Information you provided regarding the account has been forwarded to the customer service department for research. However, we have been unable to contact you to discuss this account. If we are unable to establish contact with you within 30 days from the date of this letter, active collection efforts will resume on your account. Please contact us so we may updated your contact information."
First, I never sent information to them - I REQUESTED information. I sent a duplicate letter of the 8 letters previously sent to them advising them in writing, certified, return receipt requested that I want a validation of the debt since I have disputed it (and asked for specifics found on this web site) and they have NEVER stopped their collection efforts, I found this last letter interesting. Oh, by the way, since the original demand for payment made in March 2007, they have added another $1,000 to the amount they are seeking.
