#1 Consumer Suggestion
Improving performance with MagicJack

In doesn't make sense that you could use MagicJack successfully to call a land-line phone, yet get only static when calling a cell phone. It's a shame that you gave this such a limited use before concluding that the company had ripped you off.
There are many resources available to help consumers resolve sound quality issues and connectivity issues. Since you were able to make an acceptable connection once, the unit did exactly what it promised it would do.
Every complaint I've read from disgruntled users has been directly related to issues with either their Internet service provider or the configuration of their computer.
I have two MagicJack units and they both perform well beyond my expectations. However, I took the time to read all the instructions, researched the suggestions posted by users on how to improve call quality, and gave the units a fair evaluation over several days.
For anyone who is contemplating or has purchased one of these units, please give it a fair evaluation by taking the steps to ensure you have done what needs to be done to correctly configure your hardware. Even after you have the unit working, there are several easy system changes you can make to further improve the audio quality.
Do a Google search on MagicJack and you will find a plethora of resources, tips, and suggestions for ensuring that your MagicJack unit will perform exactly as advertised.
If you aren't willing to invest a little effort to save you potentially hundreds of dollars a year in toll calls, don't order the product. Instead, get your checkbook out and enjoy writing checks to the phone company every month for the convenience of laziness!
