Mavis Discount Tires advertises: "We will beat any price". If you call them, you are also greated by their commercial also saying that they "will beat any price of any store, including internet sales".

I have called four 4 Mavis locations, and none would beat the price I got from Discount Tires Direct, which as of this writing is $189 for Continental DWS 255/45-17, and $169 for Continental DWS 275/40-17, which I needed 2 of each. They also have a $50 Instant Rebate and an additional $30 Visa Card rebate if you use your Card Care One card, which I did.

Not only did Mavis not beat Discount Tires Direct prices with the rebates, they could not even beat their prices before the rebates!

So, I decided to call Mavis Corporate office, and I asked for a manager, and I spoke with Rick, a manager in corporate at 914-984-2500, and I told him my experience and asked if what they advertise is true and if he would beat the to-my-door price.

First he said he was out of stock in one size and that he was unable to order them for me in that size. (Mavis unable to order a tire of a brand that they carry? Come on now!)

None of the other 4 Mavis's I called had that problem! Even though Mavis's online price is $156 a tire, before shipping and taxes, which are INCLUDED at Discount Tire Direct, he refused to beat the to-my-door-price of DTD.

Next, he could not beat the price even on just the 2 tires (before rebates...which totaled another $80 discount from Discount Tire Direct for purchase of 4 tires). He gave a total price of $356.45. The same 2 tires from DTD to-my-door is $338!

He tried telling me that he really was beating the price, but with the tax, his final bill was more.

So, if the final bill is more, how is he beating the price? If I have to pay a bill that is more money for the same exact item, how did I save any money?

This is false advertising and they should be forced to honor their advertised policy.

The bottom line is the last penny we pay to get the product is the price we pay. If it costs more by even a penny, the price is certainly not beaten, and it is false advertising. Mavis says they "will not be undersold!". Yeah, well, you are! Call Gary at Discount Tire Direct at extension 51861, and they will beat any price without any hassle. However, they seam to already have the best shipped-to-your-door prices already! The funny thing was my bill came to $666, but I joked with Gary and I said I didnt like that number, so to my suprise, he knocked it down to $654! And the next day after I ordered, the Visa Rebate went into effect, so I called him and he put the $30 rebate through for me! My final price will be $624! Plus he sent me 4 FREE tire valves! And I bought 4 tire warrantys, and he gave me another instant rebate for 1 tire warranty (so I got 4 for the price of 3!) If any one knows anywhere else that beats the prices and service of DTD, let me know! Oh yeah, Im going to file a seperate complaint against Sears, who also claims to do a "price match"...lol...there final price for all 4 tires was $228 MORE than the price I got from DTD. $228 dollars more?  As unbelieveable as that is, YES! So Sears is actually worse than Mavis! Tire Buyer has some better prices before taxes then DTD, but not after. Again, the to-your-door price is the price you pay, and no one that I found could beat DTD! I think DTD had some better rebates recently that I did miss out on....$100 off (instead of the $50 I got) and a $75 Visa Rebate (instead of the $30 I am getting). But for $624 for 4 Continental DWS in my sizes...I am a happy camper!

MAVIS's REBUTTAL APOLOGY "to help resolve this matter to your satisfaction" was insincere

AUTHOR: Sick of Dirty Scammers - ()

POSTED: Thursday, July 18, 2013

I did respond to Mavis's Rebuttal to see how they would "resolve this matter to my satisfation".

Jenna responded with an offer to mount and balance the 4 tires I bought from Discount Tire Direct (because Mavis refused to honor their "we beat any price" policy, so I bought my tires from DTD ), for $19.99 each and to do my 4 wheel tire alignment on my 1994 Corvette for $79.99, which she said was usually "$129 to align Vettes".

If you call any Mavis on Long Island, they will tell you the 4 wheel alignment is $79.99, but that they can do it for $69.99. I called 4 Mavis's, so I know. Also, Pep Boys, Good Year and I think Firestone all do 4 wheel alignments for $79.99, plus Pep Boys and Good Year currently have $10 off on-line coupons, so it would be $69.99.

Sears in Bayshore will mount and balance tires for $18.

So obviously Jenna was not really offering me any special deal that was truly meant to satisfy me as she was, once again, not beating the prices I have.

I did email Jenna and told her that Mavis has in the past mounted and balanced tires for me for $10-$15 each and has done wheel alignments for $55 before she even sent me her prices, so I am not sure why her offer to me was to pay even more money this time. That obviously has not satisfied me in any way.

Oh yeah, if you call any Mavis, they will offer you the $19.99 per tire deal, and a 4 wheel alignment for $69.99.

Obviously Jenna doesnt realize that people have phones and can call around for prices (and Pep Boys will beat any price by 5%).

What would have resolved this matter to my satisfaction is $90 for mounting and balancing the 4 tires and for the 4 tire wheel alignment.

Now once again after insult to injury, and not beating prices as they fasley advertise they will, they should mount and balance the tires, and do the alignment, for free. Of course I would still tip the workers, as always.
