Maytag Sold a bad refridgerator and charge over $1000 to send an upgraded one that is as bad as the original. Benson Harbor Michigan
About 5 years ago we purchased a french door refridgerator from our local store (Lowes). Model#MFT277WEM2 It was a Maytag. From the begining the in the door ice maker never worked properly. It would quit making ice or the ice would come out half melted. After numerous service calls the item was never fixed and the warranty ran out. I called Maytag service and they initially refused to do anything else because the warranty had run out. Finally, after a lengthy conversation we spoke to a supervisor, or at least someone who claimed to be a supervisor and they said they would make it right. They said they would replace the refrigerator with the same exact model. However, the maytag service person told us that that perticular refridgerator was inferior and the problem was common and unfixable. I refused and said that I wanted a better model.
Since the warranty had run out, even though the original issue had never been erradicated, we were told that we would have to pay an additional $1000 for the new model. That was the difference in the retail price. I stated that I could go to the local store where I bought the refridgerator and buy the new model much cheaper than the suggested retail price. The person said that if I wanted a replacement in the new model I could only deal with them and pay the additional money to maytag.
Well, foolishly, I paid the increase. Since this refridgerator has arrived it has been one problem after another. It too , fails to make ice at different times. The ice gets stuck up in the top of the refridgerator and at other times it it releases ice onto the floor hours after you have used it to fill your glass. To add insult to injury, the right wheel on the easy pull out rollers was disfunctional and creased our Pergo Wood floor and put a 6-7 inch grove in the wood. The doors did not even close evenly. The Maytag service company said tough luck on the floor. He could not adjust the roller. He also said that the uneven doors were normal.
Today I called Maytag again. Same result. We can send out another service company and see if they can fix it. Obviously, Maytag does not consider my time to be worth anything or not as important as their time. After all, each time we have had service before we have had to be home for about a 4-5 hour wait until the service person could make it to our house. I am writing this as a way to let Maytag know that the way they deal with their customers is simply disgusting. Customer service is a non factor with this company. I understand that a few years ago Whirlpool purchased Magtag. I still have a 20 year old Whirpool side by side in my garage. It was replaced by the Maytag French Door Model. What a collossal mistake. However, since Whirlpool is the owner of Maytag they are equally responsible to make this situation correct. Until they do, I will neither buy nor recommend any Whirlpool product to any of my family, friends, or customers.
