I, Julia Jimenez, feel that I wast unjustly overcharged by the well known MCI. Being a Senior Citizen I look for sales, bargains and any way to save a cent here and there.

Sometime in December of 1999, I received a call from MCI offering me a lower rate for calls to my family in Cuba. The conversation was recorded by MCI as operator stated to me. She offered me a 60c per minute rate for calls to Cuba. She also offerred me an alternate Service that I could use (which would charge the same 60c rate) until my service was switched to MCI.

When the next phone bill came for $831.26 I was outraged.

I called and after explaining the situation was put on hold and then told that a request for refund of $157.22 would be submitted for review.

I later received a letter from MCI simply stating that "After a rigorous investigation, it was determined that the charges in question were legitemate".

I made a second request by phone and after going through the same explaining was told that a second request for a refund would be submitted. I later received the exact response from MCI.

I send a letter to MCI attaching copies attached of bills and an explation only to get the same brief response a third time.

I am sure that the recording of the original conversation was sufficient enough to warrant a refund. It is a shame that a big Company such as MCI has to cheat their customers especially us Senior Citizens to do business. They told me that the conversation was being recorded, giving me the assurance that I was dealing with a reputable company. They made me an offer I simply could not refuse. Then they simply charged me what ever they wanted.

Their thorough investigations should have discovered the overcharges as well as the many extra calls I made to Cuba (due to lost connections). This would show that the refund was more than what they had originally suggested.

Please assist me in any way you can.

I would be so greatful knowing that MCI did not get away with it this time...
