This company offers a free trial to view your credit report, but what happens is they also offer a complete 3 bureau report and that costs 24.95, but when you go to the order page it does not inform you of the charge, it looks like it is included in the trial. Now my issue with this company I do believe was just a website error but the corporate office called me a liar when I informed them of my complaint and refused to resolve the situation. So consumer beware.

Nancy and Victims,

OK. I admit it. My post was a little over the top. But I'm tired of individuals who plead victim. Are customers misinformed? What does that mean? Where is the line between misinformed and personal accountability?

Creditreport.com actually has a B rating with the BBB. You can find an equal (if not more) amount of online complaints posted for tons of respected national companies unless they pay big bucks to remove complaints from search engines, or pay big bucks to sites like this to have corporate advocacy done, which results in the website saying great things about you.

Educated professionals to do not resort to name calling and abusive language. Your behavior here at ripoffreport.com is typical for company employees who insist that people need to read better. If it was a simple matter of reading, then there wouldn't be so many people complaining and the FTC would not have fined two free credit report sites due to deceptive business practice.

Being uninformed does not make people stupid. They just simply uninformed. Many consumers do not know that there is a official free credit report site provided by the government. www.annualcreditreport.com

I read everything on any website I visit, especially anything concerning my credit. In July 2008, Creditreport.com's site stated nothing of being automatically charged $12.95 a month for credit monitoring. Only in the past few months have free credit sites posted disclaimers that are somewhat clearer than muddy water. The problem is, many consumers think they have the option to accept the service (Opt In). They do not realize until it is too late that it is an 'automatic Opt In' and that they will go through the hassle of having to cancel with an educated professional such as yourself at creditreport.com (I am not saying you work for creditreport.com. This thread is for creditreport.com and I am using that as an example).

As I have stated before, the FTC has had a running battle of wills with free credit reports sites about 'automatic Opt In.' It is deceptive, it is unethical, it is the only way free credit report sites make money and it has cost two free credit report sites $950,000 in fines.

I, and most consumers, have come to realize, free credit report sites are in the business of offering credit monitoring - period. They have never offered a free credit report to anyone, yet they advertise a free credit report. This is a deceptive business practice. Automatic Opt In is a deceptive business practice. Hassling consumers when they call to cancel the service is just bad business.

I have only recently discovered that when consumers first refuse to give their credit card info to free credit sites, are being told that the credit card is for ID purposes. That's when some folks go ahead and give their card info. At that point, I'd have to say no thanks.

What I have discovered in my research is this: I April 2008, I wanted to order my free report and Trans Union offered a free report, but I decided that I would like to have my credit score and I would go ahead and order reports from the three other bureaus as well. The total was $25. That was in April 2008.

In July 2008, I ordered a free report from creditreport.com. I entered no debit/credit card info, yet from Aug 2008 to Jan 2009, I was charged $12.95 for credit monitoring. I never ordered credit monitoring from either Trans Union or creditreport.com, because I don't recall it being offered. I also discovered that Trans Union owns creditreport.com and that may be where they got my debit card info. I've given this info to the FTC. I'm sure they will investigate.

What bothers me even more is the fact that some if not all of these free credit sites are owned by the 3 major credit bureaus. One would think that credit bureaus would run an ethical business. That's sarcasm folks! Credit bureaus have been sued numerous times for violation of FCRA and FDCPA.

CreditReport.com customer service rep clears his mind

Right now I work for a business that takes incoming calls for CreditReport.com. (MNI Credit Srvs, MightyNet). I'm an educated professional who is working his butt off at several other jobs too so that I can provide for my family. I owned a business that failed. I pray that this is a temporary job.

I'm blown away by people who call in claiming that CreditReport.com has committed fraud, that they were scammed, that they did not authorize this, that they only wanted a free credit report. I do my best to state the facts about what the website states, why there is a charge on their CC, and the value and importance of the credit monitoring service and yes, I honestly believe in the monitoring service.

But just once would I like to say what I really thought. . . I

"Mr./Ms. customer, are you stupid? Why do you think we ask for your credit card? Our website clearly states (all over the place) that you are signing up for a free trail of our monitoring service, and in the process will also receive a free credit report. In fact, if you had actually read the fine print that is on EVERY page you must navigate through when signing up, it clearly states that YOU WILL BE BILLED for our credit monitoring service after your free trail ends. Sure, the text is not in large bold underlined print, but you're stupid if you ignored it. And yes, we have been billing you for the last four months. You didn't know this?! Do you read your monthly credit card statements? You don't?! Then you are even more stupid. We also send you an email every two weeks minimum. Do you read you're email? Do you ever check you junk email? You don't?! Well, then, you deserve to be charged simply because you're beyond stupid.

I also love it when I get a phone call from a customer and they have their credit card or bank on the line, absolutely confident that I will kowtow and admit we scammed them. Once I state the facts, the cc/bank let's their client know they are responsible for the charges, not CreditReport.com. I'm sure the banker also thinks, Stupid moron.

So rather than blame CreditReport.com and MNI for scamming you, consider the fact that you are sloppy and need to do a better job of looking at the terms and conditions, especially if you are entering your CC#. In fact, since you're so sloppy and stupid, you need the credit monitoring service you're being charged for. Your stupidity makes you a prime candidate to become a victim of ID theft or fraud.

Ah, feels good to finally say what I've wanted to for the past month.
