I got my credit card statement in the mail today and there was a strange charge from a company called MWI-24 Protect Plus from a month ago. The charge was for $245.95. I called them to find out what this charge may have been for, because I had no recollection of authorizing a charge from the company name or any charge of such an amount.

I called the number on the bill, but before they would tell me what the company was, they insisted on looking up my account and asked some questions to verify my account. Their justification was that they offered many services and could not be sure what I purchased until they looked up my account using the name on the card, my phone number and a few other things. I very reluctantly told them - that was a mistake, I fear.

Finally, they told me I had authorized the sale by pushing on a pop up add for movie tickets. I always try to close pop up ads, but a few have tricked me with a fake exit button and it is possible I pushed on one.

When I asked how they got the credit card number and a name that didn't even appear on the card, they said I must have had an account on the internet. I believe she meant any account anywhere, and by accidentally clicking on the pop up add, I had acknowledged the terms of an agreement to be charged $245.95. Rashonda, ID #11405 is the lady I talked to, though she put me on hold a lot and when I told her I did not wish to have this, she said the full amount would be refunded by the next billing cycle.

I believe this assurance was only to keep me from calling the credit card company, which I did. She also explained that I could send her receipts from my household item purchases and fix up jobs and I would get great deals and offers from them.

I hope everything gets cleared up, but I did not authorize the charge to my knowledge and I want to warn everyone to be very causious about these pop-up adds that apparently automatically tell the company they can hack our credit card number and bill you.
