In January 2007 I received emergency medical services and had to pay $498.00 for the ride in an ambulance. A few days later I received the bill and contacted the hospital in utter disbelief as to why the 3 mile drive was so exhorbitantly high and she informed me it had to be paid by the end of February, or a collection agency will be in contact. However I managed to pay it off by the end of March and was informed by a Mrs.Shaw that everything was good and I will not be on the bad credit list. It has been 6 years and I have not been taken off the list and could not understand why my credit report was so bad until I did a little investigating of my own and this is what I found. National Hospital Collections have ruined my life forever. There is no one in this world that cares enough about the plight of others, but what goes around comes around ..... tenfold.

How to

There is no law to force creditors to put or remove negative marks on credit report except child support. However, if a creditor put a negative mark on your credit report (and it must be legit), the same creditor also has the power to remove it, but it is also from the mercy of the creditor. Also, you could send a letter to each of the credit bureau and ask them to remove it if you have already paid the debt off. If you do nothing at all, the negative marks will automatically disappear after 7 years.
Now, in your situation, you could choose to do one way or the other. The easiest but painful is to wait for the 7-year mark and it will disappear by its own. You may need at most 2 years for the negative mark from the hospital to disappear.
The other way is to write a letter and ask each of the credit bureau to remove the negative mark. You need to provide each of them a copy of the bill and the receipt you have paid off. You could find how to do it on FTC website (http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0058-credit-repair-how-help-yourself).
I hope this will help you better understanding how to deal with credit report issue.
