They failed to refund 50% of my premium upon expiration of the contract as promised at the time of purchase. I feel I have been scammed.
When buying my dishwasher from AJ Madison November 8, 2015, I was sold a service contract with New Leaf. The main selling point on the policy was that if I did not make any claims in the five year term of the contact, 50% of the premium would be refunded. Hence, when the contact expired on November 7, 2020, I waited patiently for my refund to arrive.

Since it never did, I contacted New Leaf December 14, 2020 to remind them. However, I was told that I was supposed to have submitted documents to them within 30 of the expiration of the contract to "qualify" for the refund. Specifically, they said that I was to send them a copy of the original bill plus some certificate I was supposed to have. Therefore, they said, since it is more than 30 days since the contract expired I would not get my refund.

I informed them that I did not have any such certificate among all the documents I had saved from the transaction, and there was not way of me knowing that they required time sensitive action on my part. They basically said "tough luck".

I enquired as to why I should need to take any action at all since they already had all the information they needed like the contract, the payment info, the date of expiration, and my contact information. They responded that that's the way they do it giving no justification whatsoever.

I now realize that this company is running some sort of a scam. They enthusiastically declare that you will get half your money back after five years if you do not need to make a claim. But instead of sending the promised refund, they set up obstacles to significantly limit their acceptance of valid refund requests.

I find it particularly disreputable that they would use their own arbitrary 30 day rule to refuse my request since I find nothing in divine scriptures to justify their inflexibility. Obviously, their sales model is a variation of "bait and switch" since they promise one thing and deliver something less.
