I purchased 3 solar lanterns on Newegg site, with the actual seller being Giftedliving / Pembroke Street.  2 of 3 solar lanterns were defective.  I contacted Newegg immediately, but have got nothing but instructions to contact Pembroke Street & "let us know if no response."  I have notified Newegg at least 10 times that I have had no response, but nothing beyond that is done.  The phone number they requested I call goes immediately to hold music, with not even a voice prompt that you are on hold.  The email addresses bounce back immediately.  I have forwarded copies on to them of the failure to deliver notices.   They hide beyond the other vendor, they know it is impossible to get a response & then use my lack of ability to contact said vendor as an excuse to keep my $.

Finally an RMA has been issued, but now I must mail back the package at my own expense to  get a refund on crap merchandise.  I have put in 10s of hours on this, any reputable vendor would have issued a replacement or refund immediately.  They insist I mail back the bad merchandise, but the RMA expires within 14 days & they have asked me to contact the other vendor / cancel the claim with paypal "so they can help me better" and other stalling techniques.  I can't get their RMA label to print, and they issue a page of instructions hoops to jump through & warn if you fail to follow instructions exactly it may result in the garbage being returned to you.  Or a delay in processing, which in other words means the RMA will expire & you will now be out the cost of the purchase PLUS the cost of return shipping.  

Avoid Newegg, Pembroke Street and GiftedLiving.com  

It is ok if they manage to mail you something that works.  If anything goes wrong they will put you on a runaround and keep your money.   Don't trust them to do business honorably.

I filed a dispute with Paypal, then escalated it to a claim.  

Was in contact still with Newegg, the reps would apologize up one side & then down the other about the lack of refund.  Then they would get back to me after discovering I had filed a dispute, and tell me if I would have to drop the dispute in order to get the refund.  The reason why I resorted to filing the dispute was that my refund never came, despite having to mail back their defective merchandise.  Why on earth would I expect to get the $ if I dropped the dispute?

Paypal was not any help either.  I had a tracking # I supplied, but after Newegg received the merchandise they then set it on the scenic journey to another location near them.  It actually went all the way back to Seattle before winding up near the destination it first went to - I was following the instruction of Paypal on where to return it.  So during the traveling around, the tracking # suddenly revealed nothing again.  The date that Paypal was supposed to render a decision on the dispute came & went.  When I called Paypal, was told it was because they had asked for confirmation from Newegg that they had received the returned lanterns.  Newegg never responded, so my refund was held up.  Paypal can't refund $ without confirmation from Newegg, Newegg won't refund $ til I drop the dispute, and neither would they do anything to cooperate with the dispute process by confirming I had returned the bad merchandise.

 

So I filed a report with the Washington state attorney generals office.  Within 2 days, Paypal & Newegg got it together & refunded my money.  It even covered the return shipping of the defective merchandise.  imho this is the ONLY reason I was able to get my money refunded.
