We purchased a Nordyne Miller heatpump brand new through Black's Supply in Orlando 2 years ago. We have had problems with it almost since the beginning. Living in Florida, we have only used the heat 2 or 3 times but it never worked right. Finally a technician discovered a freon leak. Apparently the coil has a leak in it at the joint and the freon has slowly been leaking out. He said it is a factory defect. While the Nordyne company will furnish the part, the labor and freon is supposed to be our responsibility.Wehave now paid almost $1000 in labor and freon costs.Since this problem is a FACTORY DEFECT ,it came from the factory that way when purchased and The Nordyne company should assume full responsibility for the labor and freon as well. They refuse to do it. Their customer service is HORRIBLE and the reps I have spoken to have been rude. Having been in customer service myself, this is disgusting and unbelieveable to experience treatment such as this. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH ANY OF THESE PEOPLE!!!

I still say Class Action

I have been dealing with the BBB in O'Fallon,MO and this complaint is now in mediation. I fully expect they won't pay for anything. I even offered to pay for labor if they would pay for R22 (they sold me an R22 unit, do you believe that??) because the reason the R22 leaked out was because of their factory defective coil(s)!! That's right... BOTH coils had holes in them and were also cracked along the welds. I strongly suggest everyone on here who has a problem with Nordyne contact the BBB in O'Fallon, your local news station consumer advocate and U.S. Dept of Consumer Affairs. Knowingly selling defective units is consumer fraud. I think if we get no satisfaction from these avenues, then we all need to get together and file a class action suit against them. It's just disgusting how we have been treated by this company. I would probably get better customer service if I purchased the unit from China!!!!

Robbi314 you are right ON..  I have a Heatpump that was installed 8 months ago and hasnt turned on over the winter until last week and a poor solder job gave way without my knowing.. all freon was released and all oil leaked from the Compressor.. It ran for a week like this and  Nordyne is only offering to replace the $14 part that broke. Labor is my responsibility, I understand..  but the failure of the part damamged the Compressor and they wont replace it so I can do it at the same time.. it will cost another $400 to replace that.. when we all know it is bad.   Dealt with a Rude, Arrogant clown who calls himself bob marx in "customer relations"..     I have been telling every contractor I know because they have options..

Thanks for the comment. Sounds like you work for these crooks. This company has been KNOWINGLY (according to a blog posted by NORDYNE EMPLOYEES) SELLING DEFECTIVE UNITS!!! This is DISHONEST! There are SO MANY people complaining about this exact issue and apparently according to this blog the company has truckloads of defective units sitting at their warehouse and they are being sent out as new. Ya know, this is what's wrong with this country today. No pride in workmanship and an "I don't give a F*#! attitude like their """Customer Service Reps""" have. Apparently they treat their employees like they do their customers or this stuff would never be on the internet. Sad.

What a warranty is.

Exactly. And warranties cover the purchaser against factory defects for a limited period of time. If you'll read the warranty, you'll find that it is very clear about that. The whole purpose of the warranty is to address defects in materials or workmanship. That said, warranties have time limits. If the labor part of your warranty has run out, it no longer applies.

A lot of people post on this site thinking that a factory defect entitles them to coverage beyond the warranty period, when in fact the warrantyis very specific about the periods in which factory defects will be covered. Bottom line is, if you don't make a claim before the labor portion of the warranty runs out, you're not covered for the labor.

I understand what the warrany states. However, this is a FACTORY DEFECT meaning that this has been an issue that was there since the unit was made, so the company needs to do the right thing and cover these units. FACTORY DEFECT means it was PRODUCED NEW WITH THE DEFECTS WHEN THEY SOLD IT TO US. We did NOT purchase this unit "AS IS".It wasn't discovered till now because these leaks get worse over time and only then can they be detected. The leaks are at the joints. I didn't weld the joints.The FACTORY did and they apparently do a rotten job because I see many many people with this problem so I'm not just some nut job making this up. The LEAST they can do is cover the cost of freon. We didn't cause it to leak out, their crummy workmanship did. And that nasty April Black and the other "lady" I spoke to need a few classes in customer service or they need to get fired. In this economy there are a lot of well qualified people out there who would be more than happy to take their jobs.

What does the warranty say?

Most heat pumps cover parts and labor for the 1st year, then parts only for another 3-5 yrs. If you're past the labor coverage on the warranty then they're only obligated to replace parts. I had a similar problem with a heat pump (from a different manufacturer) and also had to foot the labor bill for a coil replacement. I wasn't happy about it, but those were the terms of the warranty. While it's not pleasant, it's hard to call it a ripoff if the company is abiding by the terms.
