One of our rip Off Reporters found a 3.5 floppy in the Dumpster at Northstar financial. It seems that one of their employees knew that Northstar financial's ship was sinking, beucase they were looking for a new job.

My name is Todd Etshman and Im writing to apply for the Phoenix New Times reporter position. I dont have the typical reporters background but, at this point, I believe I have the credentials and diverse writing experience you seem to be looking for at New Times.

I have to adjust from late night harried newspaper sports reporter on strict deadline to crafting careful in depth portrayals of people and issues for a magazine on a regular basis. I enjoy the challenge of adapting to the difference in styles. I am, however, searching for a publication whose subject matter best fits my interest and writing ability. I believe the in depth community issue reporting found in New Times is it.

In addition to my seven plus years of newspaper and magazine experience, I have nearly 18 years of experience in Arizona State government where I wrote for the Attorney Generals law enforcement magazine, reviewed legal opinions for the Administrative Register, wrote agency reports to the Governor, policy and program analysis etc. I believe having so much experience in the inner workings of state government would be beneficial since so many New Times stories here have to do with state and local government issues and I know most of the principal players (including the Governor).

Newspaper sports writing for major college and pro sports (since 1994), community and church issues, interviews and profiles for The Lutheran magazine (since 1994), government publications, business, travel, law enforcement etc. is certainly an eclectic mix of writing but I think its one that would benefit New Times. Ive included a few clips which I hope represent the diversity of my experience.
