Being a younger female from a small town out of state going to college at BSU, I needed a reliable source of transporation. I did my research and found that KIAs have a pretty good rating and get good gas mileage. I found the local KIA dealer online. I purchased a Kia Rio from Dennis Dillon on Orchard St by the freeway. Even though I told them that I did not want to do a lease, they pulled a fast one on me and it ended up being a lease through Northwest Leasing - even though they told me that it was not a lease and a purchase through US Bank. My $16K Kia is going to end up costing nearly $36K after the outrageous fees.

The people at Northwest Leasing are like Sharks in a feeding frenzy. They constantly harrass me even before my payment is due. I was one day late on my payment one month and some enormous and very intimidating guy showed up on my door step with a gun strapped to side demanding payment or he was going to repo my car. I told him that I didn't have the cash on me but that I had just gotten my check that day and deposited it into my account. He said that if it wasn't paid by the following day, he would be back and that he knew where I worked and what time my classes were at BSU because he had been following me. Very creepy and very scary!

I have heard endless stories just like mine from others who have been taken advantage, especially from younger women who don't know much about cars or don't have much experience in the buying process.

DO NOT BUY FROM DENNIS DILLON OR GET A LEASE FROM NORTHWEST LEASING!!!

How could you mistake a lease for a purchase?

Your report has several bits of misinformation in it:

1) "Kia's have a good rating" - no they do not have a good rating anywhere but on the Kia website.

2)  "I did not want to do a lease, they pulled a fast one on me..." It is completely impossible for a dealer to pull a fast one on you if you read the paperwork you are signing at the time you are signing it (not later).

I am not defending KIA whatsoever because they are one of the worst cars/vehicles on the planet. This is well known by almost everyone over the age of 12 if you actually do your research rather than believe what a car sales rep tells you.

You fell for a line because you wanted to believe the sales rep and the F&I guy. Never go into a car dealership without having had your financing lined up before you go through a third party like a credit union or bank. If you do, you are subject to the well-known game playing that most dealership finance offices play. You are an adult now. It is time to learn to protect yourself from these vehicle loan scams that proliferate the auto finance business.

As to getting out of this lease, check (read) the lease contract to see what your options are at this point. It will cost you a great deal of money, time and effort at this stage. The only thing that could be worse is if you default on the lease. If you default you will have a repo on your credit and a large penalty to pay for many years (7 to 20 years depending upon if there is a judgment issued on your default). So be careful with your next steps.

From now on, don't sign anything without reading it first. Don't leave without a copy of it in your hand. Learn to take control over your own financials. Don't think of yourself as a 'younger woman' victim. Take control over your life and learn from this experience.

One piece of advice:  Kia's are truly terrible cars for maintenance. They are cheap to buy and expensive to maintain because the parts are priced very, very high. Get rid of it before it starts breaking down which is fairly quickly. Next time you buy a vehicle (and not lease) research maintenance issues first. Kia's cost an arm and a leg for maintenance and are not worth it for even the short run.

Last point:  don't lease a vehicle. It is not a wise thing to do. Research the pros and cons of leasing from legitimate websites that are not affiliated with auto dealerships so you get accurate info.
