I use to frequent this Papa Johns location occasionally.  And I still enjoy Papa Johns pizza but as for this location, I will not be returning to.

One evening I was patiently waiting for my order while I was forced to sit and listen to the employees and/or management go on and on with 'african american' jokes.  I could not believe my ears.  I just thought it was in complete poor taste, especially from a business.  Not that it matters, but I am a white woman, although I do have a black brother-in-law.

The even more amusing thing I found was that most of the employees seemed to be of some ethnic minority as well.  I just found that ironic.  I'm sure they have found themselves a victim of prejudice yet it does not seem to deter them from demonstrating the same treatment to others.

#1 UPDATE Employee

I still work for Papa Johns and it is all true

AUTHOR: Pepperoni Guy - (USA)

I have known Dominick for quite a while.  And there is nothing UNTRUE about this entire report.  He does have a nice side but he's mostly a jerk.  The guy is a back stabber, a racist, rude.  It's like he's got like two personalities.

And I know the former employee that is commenting.  He definitely didn't deserve what he got.  He was a very nice guy and a HARD worker.  He was always cool to me.  If I didn't need a job, I would chose to work somewhere else.

First Thing I thought

AUTHOR: A. Nony Moose - (USA)

That one jerk got all uptight and defending how it's okay to make black jokes.  Yeah it's okay, we do all do it from time to time.  Along with a few Pollack jokes, Jewish, etc.  But when I store manager or owner can't refrain while that particular minority is IN THE STORE------COME ON.

I mean I might go home and tell my husband a black joke but I'm not about to feel at ease driving down Woodward, down in Detroit, sit at Popeye's chicken, stand on a soapbox and tell black jokes.  It's just common sense.  Something this Papa John's can't quite seem to decipher.

Okay Dummy, Let me explain it

AUTHOR: Black Guy - (USA)

I think the guy was making a brief generalization about the store.  He didn't want to go on for 12 pages.  If he said it happened, then I must assume it happened OR the whole report is untrue, which I see no reason or motivation for someone to do that. His original report was just that they are racist, not to describe every individual event that has ever taken place.

Second, you are obviously a racist.  I am a black man, I'm also a Christian.  I love black people AND I love white people.  So for you to say something so stupid is just ignorance.  I'm not going to sit here and whine and complain about the history of the black man but if you haven't walked in his shoes then STFU.

And lastly, I too live in the area and that store has reputation for this type of stuff.  Now I certainly don't intend for this to come across racist from me but that store is run by a bunch of Muslims.  And hey, I love them too.  But these guys are what I have found to be  quite often the stereotypical kind of Muslims; they hate everyone but their own kind and particularly a brother.

Furthermore, I don't know about the salad story but I do know about the application story and it is TRUE.  They screwed up one night.  A black guy came in and got an application and as he was turning the corner he saw Dominique throw his application in the trash.  Now that is very disrespectful but he didn't necessarily know if it was because of his race.  Then two minutes later a white guy came in and he said, "yeah, we're hiring, a f'n N just came in here and I threw his application away.  Little did he know, the black guy and the white guy were almost like best friends.  And the black guy actually went back to confront him in a professional manner and Dom had the nerves to call the police and say that he was being robbed.  The was only there about a minute, in his car and gone; not bothering anyone.

So there, I even gave you a name of the individual.  And that's why that store doesn't do much business.  The Village across the street has a dense black population and they all know the story.  All the pizza chains in the area rock compared to Papa Johns for that reason.  Go into Alex's and they treat you like gold, Benito's, very nice as well.  They can be very nice at Papa Johns as well but it's as phony as you can get.

They have like 4-5 foreigners in there that can't speak an ounce of English but they won't hire a professional, educated and well-polished black man or a white one as far as that goes.  The owner has to be a complete moron.

But seriously, pal, you can take your racial supremacist crap and shove it.

Dummies? Perhaps...

AUTHOR: Ronny g - (USA)

But did you read the report???

Where in this report does it state anyone spit in a black guys salad? Where does it state in this report that a black guys application was thrown in the trash as soon as he leaves?

The only thing this report states..is that the poor customer was patiently waiting for an order and was "forced" to listen to employees and/or management go on and on with African American jokes. If anyone was "forced to listen to African American jokes for "hours on end" that is one thing. But how long did it take to get the order and leave? Or if you are so offended why wait for the order..just leave.

Now if you have worked there and are truly witness to these actions, that is one thing..but don't call others dummies just because they do not have the ability to read your mind or somehow see in advance what happened to you personally. I do not know how you progressed this to sexual harassment but whatever it is..if you don't like the people you work with..don't work there. If they hired you...then how on earth can you claim prejudice? Did they hire you for no other reason then to harass you? Yeah...that makes sense.

There are some real dummies on this site

AUTHOR: The Captain - (USA)

I don't think that 'spitting' in a black guys salad just because he is black is anyone lacking a sense of humor.  I also don't think that throwing the application of a black guy in the trash as soon as he leaves the store is my lacking a sense of humor.

And I don't think being forced to listen to black jokes for hours on end is my having a lack of humor.  I wrote the first rebuttal on this site and I can attest to all of this being true.  Yes, I've told a Pollack joke, or black joke, or Jewish joke before myself but this wasn't quite the point with this report.  As I said, I used to work there and I witnessed all of this.  The owner also owns Pump It Up in Novi.  Being prejudice in the work place is a lot like sexual harassment. If it's not bothering anyone then that's fine.  But I'm feeling uncomfortable or pressured then it's sexual harassment.  So for the two comments that slipped their rebuttals in this report, you should get your facts straight before you comment.  I don't have to dine or work there and I won't so there's no problem there.

I don't think you two get it.... the EMPLOYEES were making inappropriate racial jokes. It is one thing if it is a customer or some random person on the street does it, but an employee should be expected to act with some sense of professionalism and respect while on the job. This person represents the company and if those actions are allowed in the front of the house for everyone to see, then I can only imagine the carelessness that goes on in the back where food is prepped. The people of this area surely WILL go take their business elsewhere and it should be appreciated that they've warned others not to waste their time at this unprofessional, childish establishment. Why do you guys pile on and bash the people who are clearly the victims here?

It seems to me you may be a bit uptight or lack a sense of humor. People tell ethnic jokes all the time. It does not mean the entire business is racist (well apparently not as you state ethic minorities who work there were participating too), nor does it conclude they were prejudice.

If we can laugh at ourselves and others, and worry less about political correctness, the world will actually be a better place. It's actually people like you that make a big stink over nothing, that keeps the hate going.

Were the jokes in poor taste?? Perhaps. But these are a bunch of guys working in a Pizzaria, not a Church..cut them a little slack maybe?

They won't be getting any more of my business

AUTHOR: Daddy DJ - (USA)

As a professional and educated black man, I will not be doing any more business with this particular Papa Johns.  I used to go into that store at least once a week as I live right across the street.

I believe this report.  I fail to see any motivation why someone would have for making a false accusation so I will no longer be giving my business to ANY Papa Johns location.  These are the type of people that would fund Al Qaida terrorist groups and I don't say that to be prejudice myself. I just know the type and these are exactly type of people that the US needs to stop letting into our country.  If you're going to live here and do business here then treat our citizens with respect.

I think it's awful that John Schnatter would let these type of people represent one of his stores.

Nawar is completely in the dark

AUTHOR: FastAsHell - (USA)

If this guy only knew half of what was going on behind his back.  Not long ago, he had two sons that stole some money from him.  No one was ever sure which one did it.  So Nawar fired them both.  The next thing you knew, the one son got his job back as a manager and the other got his own store.

Now does that make any sense??????  He's got one son there right now that seems to be pretty cool but unfortunately, he doesn't go around kissing daddy's a*s like the others do.  They just got rid of a guy that was a real good worker, who might be the same one writing on this thread.  Nonetheless, it was all politics, nothing more.

Dominique is a punk that couldn't manage his way out of a paper bag and loves drama.  THAT'S where the problems mainly lie. But until I can kind another job, I am just going to have to stick this one out.

I was told that I was being childish

AUTHOR: The Captain - (USA)

for having the gall to ask for my last check.  I told them that if they didn't send me my last check then I was taking them to small claims court.  I wanted them to feel what 'being childish and petty' was really like.  I really wish they that hadn't sent me my final check.  I would have loved to have seen these prejudice low life's in court.

This store is ran like Romper Room in between all of their hilarious 'black' jokes.  I believe I was the only one with more than a high school education but somehow I wasn't doing something right.  I wish I could have taped how this store is ran.

I kind of thought it was also hilarious how I was terminated from some old man that was hardly ever there when I was there but he has a tally of all the ruined pizza dough that I apparently contributed to and made his pathetic business go under.  Meanwhile, his loser son would talk for 2 hours at a time on the phone to his girlfriend like some desperate pimple faced high school kid with no life.

I almost Laughed My a*s Off

AUTHOR: The Captain - (USA)

when I read this report.  I used to work for this store.  I have worked on and off for pizzerias for almost 20 years.  I even owned my own place for about 4-5 years so I know the business.

This owner has his son managing the place and the guy don't know his a*s from a hole in the ground although he's very arrogant and thinks he does.  I agreed to work for minimum wage as a delivery driver and averaged about 3-4 deliveries a night.  I busted my butt, as that is how my morals are.  I probably cleaned more than anyone, I could make pizzas, do prep work, answer phones.

They have a very nice crew but some of the employees can't even answer the phones and have been there for years.   Anyways, I get a call one day that they are going to let me go because of a 'cinnamon bread' that wasn't properly docked the night before and how much money it's costing him for each mistake I make.  I could probably count on one hand the number of mistakes I made over 3 months there on one hand.  My wife and I almost died laughing upon hanging up from this phone call.

I think what the manager's daddy didn't realize is that his son was never any where to be found most of the time.  Usually the few mistakes that I may have made were when the manager was off screwing around; talking in the parking lot of 30 minutes at a time, driving to Dairy Queen, or playing around on the internet.

I was only working a part-time job when I took this job and only needed to have this job be a part-time job when I took it.  But the fact remains, I quit a job to take this job.  Big mistake.  Had I done a bad job, I would be more than understanding about their decision.

As far as them being prejudice, you hit the nail on the head.  The owners are some middle eastern decent themselves and they don't like anyone that's not one of them. I don't consider myself to be prejudice but I certainly wouldn't give these people my business.  I'll give my business to anyone of any race but if they're not giving me the same courtesy then don't consider me a customer.

In short, I wouldn't work for this place and I would be a customer for this place.
