PC Tools Fraudulently billed for recurring license San Francisco California

I purchased the PC Tools "Spyware Doctor" program over a year ago and paid $29.95 for it online. I found the software inadequate and removed it from my PC in favor of a program my Internet Service Provider provided for free which worked much better.

I had chocked it up to a lesson learned.

I just checked my bank account and over a year later they have billed me an additional $29.95 - I assume for a recurring license. I was unaware that there was a recurring charge - they certainly did not disclose this fact in any meaningful way when I ordered the software (it was probably in fine print) so I have disputed the charge with my bank.

Buyer beware... not only did they keep my billing information but they have made an unauthorized charge to my account. I will undoubtedly be able to reverse the charge through my bank but it is certainly an unethical business practice to mask the fact that there is a yearly recurring charge for a marginal software product.

Typically and if the company wishes to eliminate this issue, the company should expire the software license after a year and require or force the user to revisit the company web site to authorize a renewal and an additional charge to their account. This is an unethical business practice and should be discontinued immediately.
