MY FIRST AND LAST TIME WITH PODS

Whatever you do, do not use this company it is not worth the headache and aggravation that they put you through if something goes wrong and boy did it!!

It all started when I received 2-containers on Jan 30, 2012 to move from the Raleigh /Durham, NC area to northern Florida in the vicinity of Tallahassee.

After they brought the last container, I could not believe my eyesHOLY MOLY!! There were 2-huge holes across the width of the container, from where the forks on the forklift had punctured through the plywood flooring and up into the contents of the container. My wife told me that when the driver offloaded the container from the truck that several shelves were sticking out of the bottom of the container, and he dragged them across the driveway. I could see some of the damage as I was unloading, but I didnt realize how bad it really was.  I was very careful removing and documenting everything that had been damaged as I was going along.  It was also very difficult unloading the rest of the POD as I got towards the back because I had to lay a piece of wood down and support it across the opening so that I could roll my dolly across it to finish unpacking. 

This so called professional driver as their website refers to them as picked up this container 2-foot off center and did not even get his forks all the way under the container to support it properly!! It fell to the groundthat is what he told my wife. My observations were that the driver did not get the forks of the forklift all the way under the steel frame that goes around the perimeter of the container.  Upon further inspection of the container floor, I got a tape measure and found that the holes left by the forks coming up through the floor were located approximately 2-feet away from the designated Lift Points that were clearly marked on the outside of the container. 

Some of my jewelry making equipment was damaged beyond recognition!!!  You just got to see these picturesto appreciate the severity; the casting machine was T-Boned and now is U- shaped from being exposed to the forks after the floor broke through making direct contact.  I am positively sick over it!!

Most of the contents in the container that took a direct hit from the forks suffered serve damage.  Some of it got squashed against the ceiling of the container. 

Along with the washer and dryer also being damaged, there was damage to other items to numerous to mention.

To go out and replace this stuff is going to be very time consuming and expensive!!

I put my claim in with pictures of my damaged goods and what they are worth. The inspector came out and took pictures and asked us some questions. We told him what had happened, and the way in which they had handled the container. I did not however summit pictures of the damage to the container, just told the inspector what had happened. 

So the report comes back from the Assistant Vice President of Claims with UNIRISC, stating the
following:
1)  "No physical damage was found to the rented PODS unit and no other cause for the loss was identified."

2) Due to the fact the damage to your washer, dryer, and waffle maker were caused by mechanical or electrical derangement, the inspector could find no physical evidence of external damage. We refer you the exclusion number 14 Mechanical /Electrical derangement of the insurance policy. Often, items of a sensitive nature will malfunction as a result of normal road vibrations and handling. Since nothing can be done to completely eliminate vibration, resultant problems are excluded from coverage. This type of risk, not being a Covered Cause of Loss, we are unable to indemnify you for this claim.

The washer, dryer, and waffle maker were in the container next to were the forks came up through the floor that slammed to the ground, so if you call that normal road vibration; I guess you think I must be stupid!!

To settle the claim I was told that I would get $702 and that I would have a deductible of $100. Just one piece of my equipment is worth more than $702 in used condition i.e. replacement cost!!

You are dealing with a bunch of weasels!!

I sent another letter to the Assistant Vice President of Claims the offer had not changed since they saw my pictures of the container floor broken out.  I was not the one that was careless with my PODS container, the driver did the damage!! Boy do I now ever regret getting involved with this company!!

I have no intentions of accepting such an offer, and believe it is more important and beneficial to educate people and get the word out about PODS, and their sly and sneaky practices which are nothing more than a fast way to take your money and leave you high and dry if something goes wrong.

PODS/UNIRISC/ XN Financial have a horrible reputation of taking advantage of people.  They are dishonest, liars and cheats!! The only thing they care about is getting and keeping your money in their pocket. If you have damages, they lie, low ball, stall, and cheat people.

My claim is legitimate, I dont see how these people can work for such a company and live with themselves.

It has been 5 months, every time they want 30 days to reinvestigate, when they already have all the pictures and facts. It is a shame that these companies wont own up to the careless and reckless handling of my container and treat me fairly without my constantly having to do battle with them.  I will not accept this paltry sum of money and you will need to be realistic in settling the claim.

This has been a total nightmare, moving is stressful enough without having to deal with all their despicable nonsense!!   

I have had enough my next step is to consult the Attorney Generals Office both in North Carolina and Florida, the Insurance Commission, U.S. Senators, and the BBB.  I have a friend that is a graphic artist who is in the process of compiling all my pictures and story in much more vivid detail and posting it on as many social media websites as he can find. I am exploring my legal options in finding someone who has a thorough knowledge in transportation and interstate commerce law.
