Having been a consumer of P&G's 'trusted brand name' products for years, I never expected such a reputable company to manufacture malfunctioning products and then abandon customers who have suffered damage.

I have used several Febreze Car Vent Clips as air freshener in my car, but the last one I used malfunctioned. In a matter of hours, the liquid leaked out of the clip and down the center console of my car, staining the leather and literally eroding the paint off the plastic.

I immediately contacted their Febreze customer service team who allowed me to believe they would handle the damages I had experiences once I filled out the forms they were mailing me. They asked me to provide 2 quotes from different repair shops, fill out a detailed description of my incident, answer a sheet of survey questions, provide around 12 printed pictures of the damage, and sign a waiver that I acknowledge the physical product I sent back would be completely dismantled and I would not be able to salvage it for proof.

I complied with all that they asked sans sending the product back as my lawyer suggested I would no longer have a case without lithe product. (I.e. they could tell me I was using the product incorrectly and caused my own damage-- which would be far from the truth as I have used this product in the past.) I also sought out two car repair shops for quotes and went with the lower estimate -- over $600!!

They wrote me a letter informing me I would not receive any help from them unless I send the product back. I am appalled such an established and 'reputable' company would have such horrible customer service. The only way to get my money back now is to take them to Small Claims court. I have tried posting about my experience to see if others have experienced similar situations, but P&G's team finds and deletes them. It is unreal how bad their customer service is. Once they sell you a product, they are done with you!

Do not buy Febreze branded products as they malfunction and their team is so unhelpful! Be cautious of buying any other products from them as well as they do not take ownership.

P&G Gave me a Full Refund

AUTHOR: Nicole - ()

POSTED: Monday, February 17, 2014

Hi all,

I wanted to follow up to let you know that P&G gave me a full refund for the amount of damage caused by my car from the Febreze car vent clip. I am thrilled to see the ownership P&G has taken, as it has renewed my respect for the company.

Thank you!
Nicole

So what did your lawyer say

AUTHOR: Robert - ()

POSTED: Sunday, December 08, 2013

So when you consulted your lawyer you of course asked them what they thought about you posting a "RipOff" on a public web site when there is a possible pending legal issue.   I mean you wouldn't have done something this dumb without talking to your lawyer first...right?

But let's look a bit more..

I am appalled such an established and 'reputable' company would have such horrible customer service.

- What is horrible about their Customer Service?  They sent you all the forms and the only reason they have denied your claim is because you REFUSE to send them the air freshener.  That's not bad customer service that is smart business..and let me tell you why that is a specific and sigificant difference.  If word got out that all you had to do was to "claim" that their product damaged something without having to send any proof of the actual product you would have every (not saying you are) "scam artist" trying to take advantage of it.

But let's look at a couple of what-if's.

What if you sent them the product and they approved your claim? What if you sent it to them and they deny your claim?  You would take them to court right?  So you are basically in the same boat in the end but you are not giving them a chance to make it right first.  But how about this why not take close up pictures and/or videos of the product before you send it to them.  Then if they try to claim something that isn't true you can prove it by the pictures you took.

What if you go to small claims court and the judge thinks their request is reasonable and says he will hold off his ruling until you hand over the poduct and they get to check it out?  Are you still going to say you won't hand it over?  After all they could still say it was something you disagree with right?

I absolutely have talked to my lawyer about posting this publicly, thank you for your concern. My lawyer has advised to gather information as to who else has experienced this issue with Febreze car vent clips, as we are confident I am not alone. However, every time I post articles (and pictures), P&G reps remove them.

I said their customer service is poor because they instructed my auto dealership contact (a close and trusted contact we have worked with for over 15 years) that they would refund my money immediately to make this 'go away' if I just sent in the paperwork. Evidently, the P&G team member who promised this was over-promising and very much misleading as this is clearly not the case.

As to your 'what-ifs', I have taken, posted, printed and sent in 24 photos of the damage caused to my car. I have sent two of them to this website via email to be posted within the next few days once they are approved. Please keep an eye out and you will see the damage caused for yourself.

I appreciate and very much understand your explanation of why P&G would want to take a look at the product first. Taking a look versus dismantling the product is a very different approach, however. So I have been speaking with them for months to arrange a way for them to examine the product without dismantling it as stated in the waiver. That way, we both win.

The concern I have with blindly sending it in and having it taken apart is not only that I feel they will take advantage of me, but then I do not have anything physical (aside from well-documented photos) to present in court. I would rather have this issue analyzed in a court room setting than trusting a company who has already let me down several times within this one Febreze issue. If a judge mandates that I send over the product, I will comply as I feel this will have more scrutiny with a judge supervising than just me (a consumer) versus a corporate giant who already mentioned they wanted this to 'go away'.
