Some people try to put the blame on others...

AUTHOR: Lady Rae - ()

POSTED: Sunday, July 06, 2014

The first thing that needs to be said is that it seems like you don't really understand what you signed up for in the first place.  The second thing I think should be said is that you're putting all the blame on Ashley Furniture or RAC, when they didn't actually do anything wrong.

1) The program that you signed up for is called Acceptance Now.  You either didn't have enough income to buy the furniture straight out, or didn't have good enough credit to finance it through normal channels, so you were presented with this option, which is basically putting your furniture on lease.

If you put ANYTHING on a payment plan and spread the payments out over a long period of time you will end up paying more overall, because you will not only have to pay for the furniture but you will also have to pay whatever interest collects on your balance.  As your balance goes down so will the interest.  In reality you will pay 3-5 times the price of your item if you only make minimum payments, which is why most people make payments for a year and then take their taxes or whatever and pay the rest of the balance in full.

2) If you had read the contract you signed, you would have known that after that point you only have two options: pay for the furniture in full or return it.  If you bought the furniture for someone else and then couldn't finish paying for it you should have asked for it back.

Just think about that, common sense wise... If you go to the grocery store and fill up your cart and walk out without paying for your groceries, you're a thief.  Even if you pay for the bread and fruit but not the rest of it you'll still be stealing.  It's not the company's fault that you gave away furniture that you hadn't finished paying for.  As far as they're concerned they provided goods and you failed to provide payment.

It doesn't matter if it's furniture, groceries, a car, a house, or whatever.  You can't just stop paying for something and expect not to get in trouble. People that use this program correctly actually improve their credit.  It's not a "rip off" or a scam, it's completely legal, and it works on the same priciple as any other mortgaging or financing.

Next time you want to buy some furniture, go to a warehouse or outlet, or a little mom-and-pop shop.  Plan ahead for a few months and put some money aside in savings so you can just go and buy it cash-in-hand, since obviously financing isn't right for you.

What is RAC supposed to "respond" to?

AUTHOR: John - ()

POSTED: Saturday, April 12, 2014

"All the information here is true...RAC has not responded because this has happened before..."

 1.  What is RAC supposed to respond to?  You refused to follow the terms of your contract, apparently you did not return the items you rented, you are sixty years old, and a court (NOT RAC) sentenced you to ten days suspended sentence.  What's RAC supposed to "respond to" here?

2.  This has happened before...what?  People refusing to honor their contracts?  Yeah, no kidding.  Check out the other ten thousand posts on Ripoffreport.com.  Happens all the time.  That's why RAC's rates are so high.

My guess as to the missing part of this story....

AUTHOR: John - ()

POSTED: Saturday, April 12, 2014

There's no reason why a person who failed to make payments on rented items would be sentenced to serve jailtime, suspended or otherwise....that person would just be ordered to return the items she could not longer pay for, UNLESS...she was no longer in possession of the rented items.  I would put serious money down that this is what happened in this case- this woman didn't just stop making the payments, but decided she'd go ahead and sell the property which did not belong to her, and declare bankruptcy, because she thought she was still living in the 1980s with it's lax bankruptcy laws.  Nobody goes to jail for refusing to pay a debt when the property can just be confiscated and returned to it's owner.  This story is BS.

So....

So YOU dont pay the bill and somehow THEY are the scammers. How does that work exactly?? YOU had to go with a deadbeat lender which means you pay 3-4 times that ACTUAL amount the product is worth because YOU cannot afford it. What you basically did is tell them "Sorry youre not getting any money out of mr,screw you im filing for bankruptcy". What did you expect to happen?? Were you expecting them to just roll over and allow you to commit fraud?? Real life doesnt work that way. You may be 60+ years old, but that doesnt absolve you from your financial responsibilities.

And really, playing the age card because YOU screwed up?? Perhaps a good sharp blow to the head will help you. I suggest that you first attempt this on something soft, like say a wall, then move to harder objects. Maybe when you have banged your brain around enough you might see where you screwed yourself in all of this. I doubt it though. Consumers like yourself ALWAYS play the victim.

WAAAA! WAAA! That mean ole company is holding me to the terms and conditions I signed for!! How dare they!! Dont they realize Im a 60 year old deadbeat??? They shouldnt have rented to me at all!!!

Any of that sounding familiar??

Missing info

A person can end up in civil court as a result of failure to honor a financial agreement. There is more to this story if you were ordered to appear in criminal court.

Where's the Ripoff????

" so went to court a 60 yr old woman with nothing on any reports is now a criminal because of none payment of furniture. judge gave me 10 days jail suspended. judgement of 2309.00 that I owe them, and 18 months unsupervised probation. Just for not paying on furniture"

Did the LEGAL WRITTEN agreement you signed with them have a clause holding you harmless if you didn't make your payments?  Didn't think so.

Most rental customers are deadbeats and unable to obtain anything on credit.  The usual total cost of rental items is about three times retail cost.  I would avoid ANY rental center due to the pricing, but not for your reasons.  They were holding you to the terms of the contract YOU signed.  Being 60 has nothing of any relevance to do with this.  Don't play the age card. It's REALLY overused.

No Ripoff here.
