Regency beauty Institute Defamation Discrimination Unfair Treatment Adult Bullying Durham, North Carolina

To whom it may concern         My name is Jasmin G**** ; I am a certified nursing assistant, a single mother to a seven year old son and a aspiring stylist. I love Cosmetology. I have had a passion for hair long as I can remember holding a comb. I begun my studies at Regency Beauty Institute in Durham NC on January 3, 2012. At first the staff gave me a great outlook on my education; studying and learning techniques from the staff seemed as it was a dream. Unfortunately my dream has turned into a nightmare.

I have received for several months negativity from students and staff. Students who I never associate myself with at Regency have spread rumors and written false statements about me, defamating my character among classmates and instructors. I have been involved in events with students with the opposing party being the aggressor and even tho I never started any fights and never was rude,obnoxious or used harsh language; I was the person who was written up and received the worst consequences like being told to clock out and suspension.

I am a designer student meaning I have kept my attendance over 80% and sold a great amount of retail yet I was unable to receive my awards stating that past disciplinary actions have made me unavailable to get what I earned.I still came to school everyday with a positive and professional attitude yet the hearsay has made me unable to verbally express my concerns to the instructors at Regency. The statements that were written I have never seen. Even events I was involved in I was unable to write my account of the dispute. I have no voice!    

On September the 5th My client Mrs. Vastia Hill had came in for her appointment to realize that she did not have one. I did not remove Mrs. Hill from my books. This wasn't the first time this has happened to this particular client. I assured her that I could help her and that I had a appointment available at 3:00pm. Mrs. Hill who was upset asked me "What do I do at 3 raise some hell?" My client is a retired English teacher who taught for over 40 years and I knew she did not mean anything from what she said other than being verbal. 

Mrs. Jasmine the campus manager overheard our conversation and asked to speak to the both of us. The first thing Mrs. Jasmine says is "Did I see you agree with her on raising hell at this school?" I was shocked, I shook my head saying "No,No." My client jumped in the conversation and said " You don't have to discuss what I said with Jasmin I can handle it." Mrs. Vastia continued to say that her appointment wasn't in the kiosk and this was the second time this has happened. Mrs. Jasmine spoke telling my client that Regency was a school and how it could have been a mistake.

Mrs. Vastia reassured her she knew that Regency was a school and that she had been coming to the school for more than a year before she became my client. They continued to go back and forth. Mrs Vastia also tole Mrs. Jasmine that I was helping her with the problem and she liked the services that I had done and I did an excellent job.  After that comment I was told to go and continue my services with my 9:00am client Mrs. Saba Sherill. When I was putting product on my client and sitting her under the dryer Mrs Angela walks up and tells me to drape Mrs. Hill and do her hair.

I went to Mrs Vastia and asked her was she o.k. She looked very distraught and sad. She said "I don't want you to get in trouble." I thought to myself about what she said "Why would I get in trouble?, What did Mrs. Jasmine say?" I went behind the counter to the kiosk to look at my schedule to make sure I had time to do her hair before my next appointment. Mrs. Vastia says again " Just don't get into trouble." I said "O.K." As I walked with her to my chair Mrs. Angela walks up saying " I didn't tell you to do anything but what I told you to do."

I kept walking with Mrs. Vastia she said again "I don't want you to get into trouble." Then she said that Mrs. Jasmine disrespected her and that she was not returning. In order to a proper consultation I needed Mrs. Vastia appointment sheet. I went to find Mrs. Angela I seen she wasn't on the floor. I walk towards the office door and knock; I overhear Mrs. Jasmine talking to Mrs. Angela about me. Mrs Jasmine says" She's walking on a thin line, she has one more time, she don't know and some other things I cannot remember.

Mrs. Angela walks up to the door Mrs. Jasmine follows behind walking to the door. Mrs. Jasmine speaks and says" Well since you're here let us speak to you." I walk in preparing for the worst. They both faced me, with one arm propped on the door and another pointing in my direction Mrs. Jasmine went on to say " This conversation you don't need to say anything and if you do I am going to have to tell you to clock out and I will call to tell you when to come back." I looked up in my mind I'm thinking " What did I do?, Why is it a problem between us?" I start to smile holding back tears.

She continued to tell me how she continued to give me the benefit of the doubt, that I didn't run the school and that I had no authority. I shook my head agreeing even commenting saying nope and your right. She went on to say if she heard me speaking to my client about the issue prior I would have to clock out and go home. Then I said " My client felt like you disrespected her." Mrs Jasmine starts going off " Angie call security. Jasmin clock out, pack your things and don't say a word."She continues to repeat this as she followed me to the clinic floor.

Mrs Vastia looks at me as I hold back tears; I gave her a hug and told her that I had to leave. I couldn't even tell my first client that I was not going to be able to finish her style.        The security comes , I ask Mrs Jasmine while walking to my locker if I could have her managers number. She told me I already had it. I didn't have it or I wouldn't have asked. The security heard this as well. As the security escorts me out I overhear Mrs Angela saying "Take her out the back." I go out the back overwhelmed I begin the cry.

Mrs. Angie comes to the door , I tell her I left some of my things on the clinic floor she says " You can't come back in your going to be trespassing." The security spoke and said "She's not trespassing." She then went back put my things in a bag and the security brings them to me in Northgate's security headquarters.I told them about what happened and started to cry. The security shared that the school was known for having drama and that this has happened before to several other students. He asked me to write a statement which I did. That same day I called Advising to let them know what happened and that I needed to speak with Mrs. Ericka Mokoff as soon as possible.

She called me later that day. She listened to my account of what happened then said "Well I have 14 documents from students and instructors that say otherwise." I was shocked. This was the first time I heard of these statements against me. I reassured her that the statements were based on hearsay and were false. She went on to ask me questions pertaining to the statements and I let her know that I was not the person she seen on those statements and again they were false. I told her that I have clients and students who I did have a relationship at Regency that could tell her about my character.

She told me to go to school tomorrow and she would do a investigation into it and contact me in a week. The next day on September 6, 2012 I went to school. People were talking about how they had called the police and security for me. I continued my daily activities because I did not think the security was for me I didn't do anything. Around 9:30am Mrs. Angela pulls me from class. I sat in Mrs. Jasmine's office with the property manager of Northgate Russ, Mrs. Jasmine and Mrs. Angela. He said " I have to temporary trespass you because he heard I had some problems with instructors and students.

I told him that I did not have any problems with anyone at Regency. I thought to myself " They all have a issue with me." He told me to give him a call in a week after he does an investigation. I said that is fine because I did not say any of the statements and when this is all said and done the truth will prevail. After Mrs. Angie asked if it was okay to pack my things I agreed then Mrs Jasmine says "I have the combination of her locker." Gets up and goes to get the information. They pack up my things from the classroom, Clean out my locker as I am escorted from the property. I was humiliated and embarrassed. Later that day I received a call from my client telling me Mrs. Angela told her I was not returning.

My mother also called me saying a woman from the neighborhoods' daughter who attends Regency (her name is Alexandra) told her that I had made threats to the school and was terminated. People from my neighborhood and students from Regency left and right were saying that I was terminated. I told my clients, neighbors, and classmates that Mrs Ericka was doing an investigation and I was not terminated. On September 13, 2012 Maat Cokely called and told me about the day before (September 12, 2012) when Mrs Ericka Mokoff came to the school.

She told me about what was said to her by Mrs. Ericka and how it seemed she wasn't interested in the positive things she had spoke to her about me. She also said that during the morning announcement's earlier that day Mrs. Jasmine had implied to the whole student body if they had a issue with someone being terminated it will fall in risk of them being terminated. Maat felt that comment was directed towards her.(Since she is the closest person to me at Regency.)    On September 17, 2012 I received a call from Mrs. Ericka stating that since I had two write-ups previously She had no choice but to terminate me.

I asked her if she had spoke to any of my clients and students from the e-mails I sent her. She said " Those statements were based on my customer service." and that it was nothing more she could do and to contact Financial Aid and Mrs. Jasmine about my release forms. No one should be treated unfair and unjust as I have. I have statements from several clients and students who have attended Regency with me that state their position about my character. All I want to do is make people feel better and educate them about hair. Cosmetology is my life!
