About 6 weeks ago, my husband received a call at work from a Regional Adjustment Bureau collector, threatening to repossess his vehicle. After calling the finance company, we found that it was a simple clerical error, it was corrected and we were assured that there was no outstanding balance and not to worry about additional collection activity.

This didn't stop collectors from Regional Adjustment Bureau from calling us constantly, sometimes twice in one day, to harass us for money that we don't owe. Despite the fact that we've told them to stop calling my husband at work, they still persisted for at least two weeks. They've used extremely foul language with him, calling him a liar, lowlife scum and constantly threaten to repossess his vehicle and damage his credit. Unfortunately for them, the finance company has no intention of doing anything.

Throughout this entire time, we've maintained contact with the finance company, who has told us that there is no balance due and to ignore the debt collector. Our most recent call revealed that out account was pulled from Regional Acceptance Bureau already and they shouldn't even have the account! They're trying to collect on an account that they shouldn't even have. I have to wonder what they're up to.

We've sent them a do not contact letter (certified, of course) and have reported them to the FTC, the BBB and the Attorney Generals office. Hopefully that will get their attention.

If you're unlucky enough to have to deal with these scam artists, try to work things out with the original creditor. Believe me, it's easier than trying to deal with Regional Adjustment Bureau. Also, complain to the FTC. The more complaints they get, the more likely the FTC will do something.

Good luck. With this company, you'll definitely need it.
