I checked my Regions online account one morning before going Christmas shopping. I made several purchases on my Regions debit card that day. I came home and checked my account online and saw that an unexpected charge had come through which would have caused an overdraft. I went immediately to the bank and put the extra money in the account to cover the overage. The very next day I was hit with almost 200.00 in overdraft fees! The bank placed a fee on every transaction I made that day. I tried to discuss this with customer service, my branch manager and a supervisor of customer service. I got the same robotic answers, convoluted explanations of policy. It's almost like they lie in wait for the right opportunity to really screw their customers! I have a car loan with these people and have banked with them for years. I very seldom have an overdraft, but when I have and it was legit, I paid it without fuss. This is unconscionable to me. How dare the banks treat the people that bailed them out in this manner!

"Name Calling" = TRUTH telling...

AUTHOR: Truth Detector - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, December 26, 2009

Isn't it interesting how speaking the TRUTH and calling someone on his irresponsible habits is coined "name calling"?

The fact that you can't handle the truth about your inability to exercise proper handling of your account speaks volumes about your personality. It basically says you have the emotional development of an adolescent, as that age of human also blames every other person for something HE did wrong.

By the way, the definition of immature is:

the condition of being not fully grown

Based on your behavior of adolescent overdrafting (while blaming everyone for your poor behavior) and an unwillingness to mature into a responsible account user, it's clear who is the mature party in this debate.

I evolved into a responsible account user as a teenager. I don't spend more money than is available in my account

You? We're still waiting for the adult to emerge...

stonelf, I speak for the adult world when I say GROW UP...

AUTHOR: Truth Detector - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, December 24, 2009

Thank you Ronnie G.....I suspect Jim and Truth Detector are both affiliated with banks and probably are part of the elite club that also blames the downfall of our economy on poor people who took out loans for homes they couldn't afford. What they consider "whining" I consider "outrage" that our institutions can steal from us and justify it with the fine print that most of us don't really understand due to the convoluted verbiage.

Baloney

My response:

Ah, the useless and immature practice of accusing those who call out irresponsibility of being bank employees.

So predictable and pathetic...not to mention untrue. I actually work for a telecom, not that you would have bothered to ask in lieu of assuming something to make you feel better about being a deadbeat.

Instead of taking responsibility for your poor choices and actions, you have reverted to childishly blaming everyone but yourself for spending more money than you have available in your account.

Why is that concept so difficult to comprehend?

Perhaps a vocational course in 3rd grade math might sharpen your skills. While you're at it, take the short course in responsibility. It will do more to help you stop stealing from yourself and voluntarily handing your money to the bank than a thousand of RonnyG's hugs and kisses.

Stop overspending, avoid the overdrafts.

It's a concept so simple, a caveman can understand it...

I normally would not have replied to this one ...except...

"Yes, do that.  Blame the President.  While you're at it, blame your governor.  Blame your senator, congressman and mayor.  Blame your police.  Blame your fire department.  Blame your doctor and clergyman.  Blame your third grade teacher.  Blame the Arabs.  Blame your tax collector.  Yes my friend, BLAME everybody but heaven forbid you BLAME YOURSELF."

I did not notice this poster blame any of the above mentioned. Please clarify. Thank you in advance.

"CAUSE 1.  You DO NOT keep contemporaneous written records of your account activity.  Instead, you do it the LAZY way, you check an online balance even though your bank, in its literature, told you IN ADVANCE to not count on that figure."

Kindly post documentation of anywhere in this customers bank literature where it told them in advance "not to count on that figure". Thank you in advance.

"SOLUTION 1.  Maintain a WRITTEN RECORD of all your checking account usage including foreign ATM fees.  Do the math, subtract the debit, after each entry.  If YOU would have been doing this, YOU would have seen YOU were coming up to the end of the funds BEFORE YOU spent money YOU didn't have.  Yes its work and "yes" its the cause of every one of these whiners who rack up NSF fees spending money they don't have."

Is there a difference between an "NSF" fee and an overdraft fee? Just curious since you seem so well steeped in bank policy. Thank you in advance.

"SOLUTION 2.  Read and understand your bank's deposit policy and DON'T spend money you don't have."

How is it possible to spend money you don't have? Please explain this in detail. I am very slow and uneducated and do not understand. Thank you in advance.

SALAMI.

Your situation...

AUTHOR: Striderq - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 23, 2009

I'm sorry to hear of the problem with your account. However, The choice is basically as Jim laid out for you. I understand your frustration with the bank but if you check your statement you will see that they posted the items the same way the day you overdrew your account as they did the previous days when you didn't overdraft. The merchant controls when the purchase posts from your account. If it takes too long (usually 3 business days) then the hold expires but the merchant can still request the payment. The only way to account for all transactions is to keep a register. Subtract any debit when you do it (run your card through a machine, write a check, give card/account information over phone/internet) and add your deposits after they are available in your account. If you do this and keep your register balance in the positive you will not be accessed any overdraft fees. Also ask your bank if they have authorization into overdraft on your debit card. This means it is possible to use your card for more than the available balance in your account. This is case of emergencies. If they have it on your card ask them to cancel it. This means if you have $19.99 available in your account and try to spend $20 or more the card will be declined. This will help eliminate OD fees also but the only guaranteed way is to keep an accurate register.

Yet another deadbeat who refuses to take responsibility for poor decisions...

AUTHOR: Truth Detector - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 23, 2009

stonelf quipped:

I am not blaming anyone for my oversight of one transaction, but why not add a fee to the ONE transaction that causes the overdraft? Because they CAN, at this point, legally rearrange the sequence of transactions to their benefit and charge a fee for every possible transaction....

My response:

Congratulations! You are the latest in a line of irresponsible dolts. YOU overdrafted your account, yet you have opted to blame everyone else but yourself. This is very pitiful, but not unexpected in 2009 America.

I have news for you: Unless you learn some RESPONSIBILITY and track your transactions like an adult (instead of this childlike whining), your habit of overdrafting will continue.

The best part is, YOU signed on to this by signing the TERMS AND CONDITIONS that accompanied the account opening. Make sure you give YOURSELF a good talking to. After all, YOU p****d your own money away.

Any way you boil it, YOU are responsible for this s**t stew you cooked up. Grab a spoon and gobble it up.

AUTHOR: stonelf - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 23, 2009

I used a DEBIT card....maybe I am naive, but if funds are NOT available, I expect a transaction not to go through. Why are certain transactions held as pending and never show up on my online statement? And why should I not trust the online statement when I am daily reminded by by bank to bank the easy way...online! I am not blaming anyone for my oversight of one transaction, but why not add a fee to the ONE transaction that causes the overdraft? Because they CAN, at this point, legally rearrange the sequence of transactions to their benefit and charge a fee for every possible transaction....therefore stealing from their customers.

poor jim

AUTHOR: anonymous - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 23, 2009

poor jim has too many screws loose like so many other bitter inconsiderate jerks you find in today's society.... its not your fault....banks should not have the right to do this....if it was "OK" to do this then why would the president be throwing in laws and rules to attempt to stop or change it. It's not ok....The banks are horrible...they are stealing from everyone.... you have to be a checkbook balancing professional to be able to scucessfully not get charged 300.00 worth of overdraft fees over ONE minor mishap---NO THANKS. People should NOT be penalized 100's of dollars for one ridiculous error...or miscalculation.....that is theft and fraud on the bank's part....banks need to change their OD policies and that does not mean just the option of opting out of overdraft protection...much more needs to be done....why are large corporations profiting and stealing from hard working consumers....of course it is theft and some of the worst kind.....idiots who condone it just have issues....not sure why they seem to want to blame the victims rather than the perpetrators.....or maybe they jsut work for the banks

Blame Your President!

AUTHOR: Jim - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 22, 2009

Yes, do that.  Blame the President.  While you're at it, blame your governor.  Blame your senator, congressman and mayor.  Blame your police.  Blame your fire department.  Blame your doctor and clergyman.  Blame your third grade teacher.  Blame the Arabs.  Blame your tax collector.  Yes my friend, BLAME everybody but heaven forbid you BLAME YOURSELF.

Who overdrafted the account?  Who owns the account and agreed to the terms and conditions in regard to overdraft fees?  Y-O-U!

Direct quote:..."I came home and checked my account balance on line".  Direct cause of all this:  "checked my account balance on line".  You deposited money because YOU overdrafted the account.  YOU spent money you didn't have and you expected you would be credited with the deposit immediately.

CAUSE 1.  You DO NOT keep contemporaneous written records of your account activity.  Instead, you do it the LAZY way, you check an online balance even though your bank, in its literature, told you IN ADVANCE to not count on that figure.

CAUSE 2.  Direct quote:..."I went immediately to the bank and put the extra money in the account"...You expect the deposit to be credited at once, which the bank's literature will tell you doesn't happen.  You put in money to cover the OVERDRAFTS after the fact!

SOLUTION 1. Yes its work and "yes" its the cause of every one of these whiners who rack up NSF fees spending money they don't have.

SOLUTION 2.  Read and understand your bank's deposit policy and DON'T spend money you don't have.

THE QUESTION.  What's it going to be?  Start being responsible and keeping accurate records or be like the rest and blame everyone but themselves for WHAT THEY DID?  There is no question its your account and your money, right?  Then doesn't it make just the slightest bit of common sense to know...really know...how much money you have?  Handle money like an adult or handle it like a child.  The choice is YOURS!

SHALOM
