We rented a bedroom set from Rent a Center for 8 months.  When we moved to a new apartment, we found ourselves in need of a living room set.  We rented one from Rent a Center.  A week or so later, I started getting bug bites, which at first I thought were mosquito bites.  The bites first occured when I was sleeping on the sofa.  I was getting so many bites and finally one day, my partner found a bug, we did some research and low and behold, they were bed bugs.  We then also started seeing bugs in our bed.  We called Rent a Center and reported this.  They opened an insurance claim for us and assured us they would "take care of us".  They sent out Terminix and found bed bugs in our bed.  This is what bed bugs do, they may come in on one item but migrate to the sleeping area to be close to thier "hosts".  After a week with no response, I was getting very upset.  The store said they would send someone to pick up the bedroom set.  I told them that this would not solve the problem as they were also on the living room furniture and may now be in other places in our home and that it was my understanding that moving the furniture may make matters worse where they may migrate again.  They assured us that they knew what they were doing, that they would wrap the furniture securely with plastic before moving.  They did not wrap the furniture before removal.  They also sprayed a product in my bedroom, which I told them they probably shouldn't do because they are not professionals.  They said they had to do it for thier own protection.  After many, many phone calls to rent a center and the insurance company, finally on Saturday 7/15, the store manager phoned to tell me that the insurance claim had been approved and Terminix would call to schedule a treatment.  Terminix called the following Monday and said they had received approval and scheduled treatment for 7/17.  Terminix did not show up.  I called them and got to their corporate office who informed me that they did not have approval for the treatment.  While I was on the phone with them, my landlord called to tell me that the bed bugs had moved on to our neighbor's apartment.  She was LIVID.  I finally reached the insurance company and they said that they had denied my claim because the bugs were found in my bed, which I had for 8 months.  My current and previous landlords can attest to the fact that there were no bugs previous to recieving the living room furniture.  The previous tenants of my unit will also attest to the same.  We have lost some $2500+ in equity paid into the furniture which is now lost to us.  We will also be responsible for extermination services for our building, which having six units may be somewhere around $3000.  I have been psychologically terrorized by this whole situation.  I don't sleep much and when I do, I have nightmares.  Calling Rent a Center "Customer Care"  is absolutely useless.  They tell me they cannot help me, I have to talk to the insurance company.  The insurance adjuster told me that "bed bugs don't jump" so they couldn't have come from the living room set.  Which is ridiculous because no they don't jump, but they do crawl! This is a disgusting immoral company!

Rent a center did this too me too!!!

They also brought bed bugs into my home!! I rented a sectional and it was infested now i have lost alot of personal belongings and because my son is allergic to the bites I am living in a hotel for six weeks while being treated!!

The insurance company for these morons are a joke and they are not going to help so i suggest that you hire an attorney like I have and fight for what is right:) They dont care about any of us and are not willing to even listen. It took them less than 12 hours to deny my claim when they are in nj and I am in ohio what a d**n joke!! 

Good Luck to you and your family and rememeber to follow everything the exterminator says and also call your local health department and the agricultural dept in your area because they do not have a license to use chemicals in anyones home!!

Clearly a "form" response

Clearly this rebuttal is a "form" response, I've seen it with every other complaint about bed bugs with rent a center.  Please at least take the time to read something before you respond to it.  I said in my article that I have tried speaking with Rent A Center "Customer Care" and they refuse to even speak with me.
