I started my rental agreement last december 2003. I paid on a big screen tv valued at 1500 and when I finish paying it will be over 4000. My payments have always been weekly and when I was only ONE day late, they would call my friends, job, and home. I almost got in trouble with my job and I told them so, the calls kept coming! I got laid off and they started coming to my house repeatedly, calling from unlisted numbers, repeated harrassment. Rent A Center is a loan shark company and they prey on low income people!!!!

#11 Consumer Suggestion

Both Sides are right

AUTHOR: Dean - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, July 09, 2006

I have worked in the rental industry for 12 years. Rent a center is but one of the companies. The bottom line is this. The Rental companies come off as being so supportive of the customer.

Like welcome, wanted and important!(One of the many rentway slogans.) I have worked for rent a center, national rentals, colortyme, coleman rentals and rentway. One I have one's I have not worked for is Aaron's.

I would rate aarons as the best with the rest in the middle and the worst Rentway. I could write a book on the downside to working in the rent to own industry. A lot of things done on the collection side is borderline if not downright illigal. But that's just one aspect.

The rental aggreement is what it is you should abide by it and not complain when you cannot pay.

Problem is people run into trouble. Not just so called deadbeats as we in the business call them.
good honest hard working people that should be given time and compassion. rent to own does not.

The "account manager" quickly can define those people and wants to help. Proplem: he can't.
You see he has to show at the end of the week that he has collected 92% of his account or more to keep his job. See where all of a sudden a compassionate person who knows who is going to pay or not has to badger and harass customers or his job is on the line, every week! This goes up the hill to the manager, district manager and regional mgr. So the customer that really wants to pay and gets a couple or 3weeks behind and can pay or will return merchandise gets the screwing.

You have heard, 2 or 3 different people call me.
That is true because the "account mgr" no longer works there and a newbie is working the "cards". so you can see the pressure placed upon them.

Its a funny saying in this industry. The customers that pay on time are the ones we do not even know! In a service industry that supposed to reward for doing good, they get the least reconition. Well I could go on and on But I hope I have enlighted some

THESE PEOPLE SOUND JUST LIKE EMPLOYEES

AUTHOR: U KNOW ME - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, July 03, 2006

Its pretty funny how all of you rac employees make all your payments on your bills on time. Give me a break all rac employees are trained to do what youve all done to customers. You all know if you dont hit your numbers you have to stay late, bonuses arent as big, you get your asses chewed out and the whole lot of you are being pressured from the higher ups.

I've been in your position and we've all treated customers poorly but there is no excuse for it. I'm sure you all know that racs bor(customer accounts)is way down from a year ago. Ya think this could be the answer why. You all give 100 percent for nothing I worked for this piece of crap company for years and then they sh** on you when things dont go their way.

So belive me RAC employees your turn is coming soon, then you all will think twice. And by the way when you write rebuttals employees check your spelling. Oh ya I forgot u work for RAC.

Same Complaints In All States

AUTHOR: Erik - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, June 30, 2006

It's so nice to see that people used the same excuses in different states. I'm a store manager for RAC and I have heard every line in the book. As soon as we expect customers to pay us on time we are monsters. I have worked in 3 different stores and at all 3 about 25% of the on rent customers have been a pain. That's why we have to budget how much we are gonna collect on reinstatement fees.

We don't enjoy collecting these fees but the truth is that of that 25% all of those customers are chronic late payers. We have to be so involved in the lives of our customers, that it make me sick. And we have to be so involved because without detailed knowledge, we wouldn't get paid. We don't prey on poor people but we offer them nice things right NOW without the use of personal credit or huge deposits. All you have to do is pay us ontime.

On a Missouri rental agreement on time payments are mentioned a total of 3 times. I'm not saying that we dont overcharge in come cases but it is really up to the consumer to rent. But thats the beauty of rent to own. You can decide at anytime to return for whatever reason. You have no debt with us. If you do decide to terminate an agreement you can pick where you left off. I wish I could return my car when times got hard and have the option to get it back and resume payments where I left off but life isn't that great.

All customers are encouraged to use the 90 Same as Cash. If you can't payout in that time then you can payout for 55% of the remaining cost. If people were more rsponsible with their personal finances then rent to own would not exist but thats not the case. Our entire customer base consists of people who want the best right now and don't mind paying extra. In retail once you walk out the door, we are done but in RTO we have to chase our money every week.

Have you ever had to chase down your paycheck? Probably not. It's extremely frustrated to know that every week you will have to have the same conversation with the same people and thats reflected in our operation costs. Our overhead is so high because our customer require so much time and we all know that time is money.

Most people that complain about RTO are simply inresponsible and generally a pain in the rear.

sorry lance - Thats why you are a ex worker for Rent a crap.

AUTHOR: Greg - (U.S.A.)

And thats all they are you pay twice as much for something that you can get cheaper at any other store unless you cash and carry, and even then its not a bargin The company says its new But then you get it home and find out its been used because some one could'nt pay for it.

If you are going to say the iteam is new at least delete the old garbage out of it. MY tv set should'nt have the channels all ready programmed into it. or mu computer should not have some one else master card number still in it.

Unfortunatly they have every right to call you once you don't pay, you brook the agreement my suggestion is to call the store and tell them to pick up the garbage that they rent to you and then go to a lawer and file a complaint with the store managers. It turns out that most of them only have a high school diploma and no nothing about sales or how to treat a customer. lets face it if you have a degree why would you want to work their in the first place.

Then after doing buisness with them for a while you find out that they eaither hire worst workers arround or that their a friend of the person who is in charge of the store.

We had one guy in this state that was arrested for stealing money from customers at their house. That is a matter of puplic record hear now.

Rent a Crap is bye far the worst rental company arround go to arrons or some local rental store I'am dealing with a local company right now the owner is verry nice and give leway to hard time customers. As long as you keep him updated on your situation and don't let it go on for more than three weeks he is good about it.

My other advice to is don't leave money arround the house when they come to deliver or pick up .

And lance you would never make it as a salesmen with my company. customers first.

The reason for the lawer is because I have sued a Rent a crap store for harrasment and they settled out of court. I kept a record on how many times they called a day even after talking to three or four difrent sales persons apprently they don't mark things in computers eaither.

If you can't afford it, don't buy it

AUTHOR: Mandii - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, May 31, 2005

Anyone with any common sense knows renting furniture/electronis ect. is a bad idea.

You will always be charged double what the product is worth, sometimes even more.

YOU made the choice to enter into an agreement with Rent-A-Center, you signed the papers, took the tv.

If you got laid off from your job and could no longer afford to pay on it, why didn't you return it?

As unfair as you think the pay off price on the TV is, you chose to enter into this agreement knowing how much it cost.

Suddenly you lose your job and THEY are the enemy because you can no longer pay for your coveted TV.

Renting is renting.

YOU DO NOT OWN THE TELEVISION.

If you returned it to it's rightful owner, they wouldn't be harassing you.

Lesser intelligents?

AUTHOR: Daniel - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, April 26, 2005

Sorry Lance, but you're the last person who should be mocking the intelligence of someone. You sound like an I/O who's a bit frustrated with their collections. Chill out. Treating your clients like criminals is bad business.

loan sharks my a*s, you so dumb

if you dont like them to call your work call them first ask for your account manager and tell him/her when youll be but dont lie tell them the real day you will be in that is all it takes the fact of the matter is you wanted the tv and now you feel like you have been taken advantage of

how can you be taken advantage of in an agreement that has no long term obligation the fact of the matter is you are tired of paying and will bash whoever it takes to get your way

i feel so sorry for this country you know deep down in places you wont admit to having YOU ARE WRONG!

take responability for your action amd either retun it or finish paying for.

but of course you wont because you dont have and because we should feel sorry for people of lesser inteligents then ourselves so you go through life blaming companies and people for all your problems
