I signed up for a 14 days free trial to see if this company could be useful to give me information on how I could write my resume etc, just using the free services they offered. I meant to remind myself to unregister but as usual I forgot, which is what they rely on to make money for this business model. An honest company interested in providing a real service to customers will remain in contact via email, for example my mobile phone company always texts me and emails me when a bill is due, Amazon, Netflix etc. This company does not remind you that you have subscribed at all after the first signup.

In comparison Netflix has just emailed me to tell me my free trial is up in 3 days. This is honest upfront business.

Resume Genius does not. On top of that it signed me up for another month of services I have not used since I signed up and as my bank queried the charge it reminded me. However, even though I contacted Resume Genius within the space of 24 hours of the same day they charged me they replied that as my payment had been charged they were unable to refund the charge now that I had registered on my account on their website to cancel.

I wonder if this is in breach of buyer cooling off period for purchase? Is there such legislation in the US. I am imagining many many people are being caught out by this automatic billing. The only way to avoid it is that you need to set reminders religiously for yourself, but many people are not that technically or legally savvy even I who am technically capable failed to do this.

There should be protection for consumers especially vulnerable consumers against this kind of automatic signup, as ever who reads the small print ever, who has time, this company is using humans natural habits against them, surprise surprise.
