In May 2011 my husband & I went to Rightway in Port Huron to finance a vehicle. At the time we were behind in our house payments so we were told by Doug, the finance manager that he would just add what we were behind to our loan & they would issue a check to our mortgage company.
At the time we were 1 payment behind with 1 more due in less than a week. Tina Smart the sales rep. wanted $500 down plus our old truck for a down payment. I told her that I could not give her the $500 cash due to the fact that we had another house payment due. She told us that we didnt have to worry about the house payment because they were going to pay the 1 we were behind & the next 1 that is why they added $1100 to our loan. However all they did was pay $548.
So now we are paying $12,000 for a $2,000 truck that was suppose to fix our credit along with paying extra interest on money that wasnt used for what it was suppose to be used for! Doesnt fix our credit when we are still behind in the house payments! Not to mention it took them a month & half & several calls & visits before they even paid the $548!

We jumped threw every hoop they asked us to including giving them our house payment & we ended up in a worse situation than we were in before we went there to "fix" our credit in the first place.

I don't think this is possibly true.  There is no way that any lender would lend $1,100 over the price of the car (which seems to be about 5x the value of the car) to pay a mortgage payment for a subprime borrower. Would you lend someone with a proven track record of not paying their bills $12k with your only recourse being to repo a $2k car if they don't pay? The only way this is remotely possible is if the dealer is also the lender and at the end of they day they win even if they take the car back because they just sell it to the next sucker and have not lost anything but a big mark-up on paper.

But if that was the case, why would they bother to force the borrower  to make the mortgage payments - how would that benefit them?  Lenders don't trust dealers at all, even if I'm wrong and scuzzy deals like this do happen in the subprime world, the lender would still certainly require that the exact distribution of funds be in writing.  There is no way that the lender would just trust the dealer to coordinate all of this without anything in writing.  If I were the borrower, and if this is really true, I would contact the lender and see what is in the loan documents.

Do you guys get paid for this?

AUTHOR: mary - (United States of America)

So is this what the sales people at Right Way do on their down time is go on these sights and speak poorly to people who have been put in a bad situation?

Let me just say....Not all people with a repo or poor credit are bad. We made 6 figures a year. I worked for the gvt. for $350/day and my husband had an awesome job. The same week he got laid off is the same week the Neuro doc at the VA I worked for decided not to renew his contract. We cut our income by half in a week's time. We had almost a $500/mo car payment. So, we gave the car back.

Now how are we deadbeats? Since then, we have built it back up very slowly.....BUT we chose/choose to drive crap cars that get us where we need to go until the time is right. BECAUSE we would NEVER buy from a dealership like yours. Especially one that pays people to get on here and bully people down on their luck. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Rebutel to my question.

AUTHOR: Firelawn82 - (United States of America)

It turns out I should have listened to what I was being sugested by the sales person we purchased the vehicle from. I took the vehicle to them today. Let me tell you what, I felt extremely at ease with the time and effort they took to get to the bottom of my issues. I was at the service center for an hour and ten minutes going over the vehicle and a test drive. My statement above was out of frustration but was not ment in no way shape or form ment to be anything other than a question. I regret posting a comment to this poster. Just remember people, EVERYTHING on the INTERNET is usually far from the truth....  Lesson learned.

I would like you to contact me. My fiance needed a reliable vehicle to drive 60 miles per day to and from work 6 days a week. We have lame credit and our only choice was a place like this. I knew we would be paying more for whatever vehicle we decided on. She purchased a 2004 Ford Explorer with 103k miles on it. We will pay about 10K if we keep it for the entire loan period. We have not had this vehicle for more than 40 days and things are starting to go wrong everyday. In the last 2 weeks the rear end has started to whine, when turning left or right below 10 mph there is a grinding or chatter noise from the rear, behind the temp gauge on the dash there is a clunking noise, heat is no longer an option, a coolant leak has started. We have taken the vehicle to two seperate places and before they started the work they called the warranty company to see how they operated and or what they covered. It turns out the 3 star plus warranty means absolutly jack nothing.... It's supposed to cover everything from from bumper to bumper. What the mechanic was told is if it was pre existing it would not be covered at all period. When we purchased the vehicle it ran perfect, not a sound or a clunck. Now 40 days later its falling apart. What is it I can do about this? I called the sales person today and he said to take it to a place that knows how to use the warranty. He gave me the Number to Look in-nu Auto off of Williams lake road in Waterford. I would like to hear from you as soon as possible PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get in touch with me.  Thank you.

Ex MGR of the store

AUTHOR: bigpappa976 - (United States of America)

I was the MGR at the time this deal was put together. I do remember this deal very clearly, but lets just say this. 1 It wasnt my fault this wasnt paid. As we all know there is a higher power in the corperate world. 2 I tried till I was told NO on numerous ocasions after the deal was funded. So this is not my fault. But lets just say this........ Garber Management in Saginaw MI ownes Rightway Auto, Gateway Financial, and multipal other dealerships. A little insite on how they roll in the " AUTO INDUSTRY" is if you ever have an issue dont take it up with the store manager. Go to the regional Manager and if that doesnt work then go to d**k GARBER who is the owner. This Corp on the Rightway level is the most unorganized and full of crap company I have ever seen. As the Manager in the store I seen all the behind the sceens stuff they pull. Lets just say im going to make it my personal intrest to coach comsumers that are in bad predictiments on how to buy cars at the right place, price, and not a 2001 for 10k! They break laws everyday in these stores and they need to be exposed. Also if there is an issue at all Consumers please dont ever hesitate to call the attorneys general and also the better business bureau and file complaints.

Rightway Automotive

AUTHOR: Rightway - (United States of America)

Janet I was very disappointed to see your post.  In no way was it Rightways intentions to pay too few of your mortgage payments based on our agreement during the sales process.

As you stated you were one payment past due.  Our one payment would have brought your mortgage current and the next one would be due, but not past due.  I truly believe that may be where the confusion lies.  Making the mortgage payment was a necessity to obtain financing and if we had needed to make 2, we would have addressed that.  You can tell by making any mortgage payments we will go to great lengths to help a customer obtain financing.

And so you are aware, the price was not raised any amount of money for the mortgage payment.  I am truly sorry that there was confusion and in these tough economic times where people need cars and are behind on their mortgages, Im proud to be at Rightway Automotive!

You People Are So Cruel!

Don't you know, people are ENTITLED to a car?  Don't you know, when people get behind in their bills, its NOT their fault...they're financially challenged.  Don't you know, the collectors are supposed to let it slide when the subprime borrower is a Veteran?  Don't you know, the collectors are supposed to let it slide when the borrower is an unwed mother (oh, I'm sorry I forgot) a "single mother" with five kids from five guys (that wasn't her fault either).  Don't you know, the big banks are out the "GET" the little people?  Don't you know, the big banks never, ever tell depositors when they are overdrawn so they can collect enormous fees?  Don't you know, the lenders and car dealers have received billions and billions of tax payer dollars?

Yes, you people are so, so cruel.  Nobody but the very rich can make their payments on time!  The cost of everything is going up!  All the big retailers are out to get the little people!  Just look at the price of the basic neccessities such as cigarettes, beer, high speed internet, big screen tv's from the rental places.

Have a heart!  These people are trying and trying to make ends meet.  One day, their ship will come in and all the money they invested in their state's lottery will pay off!  Just imagine the envy these people will have when that happens and they attend the next Dale Earnhart Memorial Poker Tournament at the trailer park.

Yes, I simply cannot believe how you smug, self righteous people can just sit their in your glass houses and shoot these poison arrows at these people.  Just day you might become credit challenged and financially challenged thru no fault of your own!

Don't have to wonder why you're behind in your payments

AUTHOR: voiceofreason - (United States of America)

Would y'all mind just reading your own post from beginning to end, slowly, and see if you end up seeing the picture isn't hanging right on the wall? You were just days away from missing your 2nd home payment in a row and you're out financing a $12000 vehicle purchase? You all clearly need a financial reality check. Hope your vehicle has room for camping out in it because at that rate you're gonna be calling it home.

That only works for the federal government.

At the time we were behind in our house payments"

Only in America do people who are behind on their house payments go car shopping.  You can't borrow your way out of a financial hole.  Only the feds can do that because they can print more money to cover the debt.  You can't.

Paying $12K for a $2K truck is nuts.   Involving some car salesman in your mortgage issues is even crazier.   I've read your report several times and although you claimed you paid $10K more than the truck was worth, $1100 was added to go towards house payments?  What about the other $8.9K?   Why would you expect a car salesman to make your house payments?  Do you have a contract that says he will do this?

From a financial aspect, this whole deal sounds completely crazy.
