UHaul International And Western Republic Insurance Co. Negligence, endagerment, conflict of interest, breech of contract Phoenix Arizona .....

I called a local Uhaul dealer and rented a 14 ft truck to move. When I got there they had a 17ft deisel for me. Larger than I needed or wanted and it was deisel. The smell was awful. The dealer told me that was just deisel -- get used to it. It was a very rainy day and the windows had been left open. The seats were soaked. I got a complimentary blanket to keep dry.

My journey was from St. Louis, MO to Wichita, KS -- approx 440 miles. On the trip I had great difficulty getting any speed out of the truck. My sister followed me in her car, directly behind. I went through copious amounts of fuel. I had to call the company on four separate occasions as the truck would not start when I stopped for deisel. My wait for return calls was always lengthy, if I got a return at all. The smell was toxic and when I opened the window it was just as bad. A 7 hour trip was turning into a 12 hour nightmare. I was puttting deisel in every hour! At my last stop I called for service as the truck would not start again and when I opened up my door and started to fill up deisel was dripping everywhere. My sister's car was covered in deisel fuel. I had been sitting in 4 to 6 inches of fuel. The fuel line in the cab had been broken all along. Probably why the window was open when I picked it up -- to air it out.

As a result of this, two outcomes have evolved. One, I had a laptop with my work files ruined and a phone. They were soaked in fuel. As per their request I had them examined and submitted a report from a third party. The damage was verified. Both objects were totally ruined. Secondly, I have suffered headaches, and other illnesses as a direct result of this incident. I have been unable to practice since the event.

Neither Uhaul nor Western Republic will pay my claim. Ironic that I purchased an insurance policy, at their recommendation, and it will not cover me! Turns out that UHaul owns the insurance company.

This claim had been going on almost a year now with nothing from them .....except more headaches. I am living a nightmare everyday. I know that at first that may sound rather melodramatic, but unfortunately it is not.

I am at my wit's end. Any suggestions?
