RJM Acquisitions Funding Bad Debit Collection Syosset New York

My wife got a collection notice from this company today claming a 14 year old debt from Wells Fargo Bank Visa Card. I mistakenly called them to ask what it was about. They told me to call Wells Fargo for the details.

Upon calling them and checking my credit report, no debt currently or ever existed. I called RJM back again but they still did not give me any detail. The account number listed is not enough digits to be on a credit card, the supposed debit is not on any credit report, and the bank says they do not collect on debt over 7 years old.

Thanks to this website, I see others have had similar problems. My worry is them having the first two and last two numbers of her S.S.N. I'm going to ignore it, but should I have any fear that this could lead to identity theft? I hope the multiple filings read below has the FTC act upon our concerns.

Future advice: search these types of companies first, call your bank for verfication of debt, check your credit report, THEN make the call if necessary. Don't get suckered into these scams!
