Last year my wife and I applied for, and received a credit card from Sam's Club. We had not used it ever. We had not even activated it since this was something we would only use at Sam's Club.

After a few months we received a bill for $52 and change, as that showed the balance on the card. We called several times to find out why this balance was on the card. None of the people we talked to would answer our question.

Usually this was done by putting us on eternal hold while the representative was "finding out". On the last call, I was so fed up, I said I would not pay.

Well. they cancelled the card, as I expected they would. As I checked our credit report, I saw no charge off or reference to the card. That's a good thing, but it validated to me that the charge was bogus in the first place.

A few months later, we went to the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Warket that was new in the area to pick up a few groceries. We wrote a check, and was told that they would not accept our check since we owed Sam's Club money. That chapped me pretty good since I had spent the better part of an hour shopping.

Needless to say, I don't patronize any Wal-Mart based establishment. Noy that I think losing my business will hurt them any. I just don't need the BS.

Membership Fee

AUTHOR: M - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, November 04, 2005

The Sams Club credit card doesn't have an annual fee. However, you pay a yearly "membership" fee to Sams and if you open a credit card with them they automatically bill your membership fee on the card. So I am guessing your card was billed a $35.00 primary membership fee, a $15.00 fee for additional user(spouse) and the $2.?? were finance charges from not paying it all at once.

Just my thoughts as a member and credit card holder with them. I do not work for them.

Also, it may not have showed up on your credit report YET but if they are denying your checks at walmart I imagine it will show up on your report in the coming months. Sometimes it takes 60 days or more.

Annual fee

AUTHOR: J - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, November 03, 2005

Just as a response, the annual fee was my first thought. That is in the amount range of most annual fees. But after I had made some calls to Sam's Club and other places, I came to realize that it was not an annual fee. There are three reasons that support this fact.

1. I had yet not activated the card.
2. Sam's Club customer service couldn't tell me what the charge was.
3. It's not on my credit report, nor have they sent it to any collection agencies (it is my understanding that card companies will actively try to collect fees unpaid with or w/o purchase balances).

I guess the possibility of that being the annual fee is real enough. However nothing has supported that to date.

Question?

AUTHOR: Pete - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, November 03, 2005

I'm not a Sam's Club member so I hope someone can answer this. Isn't there an annual fee for membership? Since you applied for the card, could this charge be your annual fee? Just asking...
